If you had side skirts attached to the tow vehicle that went all the way to the sides of the trailer, then had them on spring hinges that allowed them to swing out for turns even to the point of jack knife, then just return to their neutral.

What you don't want to run 60 sheet metal screws into the side of your SRT so you can hang a 4'x4' aluminum panel on each side?

I also wonder what the turning limit on the old GMC aero truck was? This was the coolest thing ever.

Beer [advertising] trucks went from that to Clydesdale horse-pulled wagons.

That truck is so cool it didn't need refrigeration for the beer.

Many trailers of that vintage had rounded noses.

I’m guessing that tractor trailer combination had no problems making tight turns or jackknifing while backing in narrow streets or alleys to unload..

Note the extra space in the trailers rear wheel arch...

The extra space is for the sliding rear axle.

What’s old is new.

What’s new is old.

Thanks for sharing the aero truck picture. Very cool.

And yes, putting a long row of sheet metal screws along each side of my SRT wouldn’t be my first choice….ha.

I’d did however sketch up a setup where a 1/4” birch plywood panel would be the side walls of the trailer. But the side walls would extend 3’ fwd of the front edge of a v front trailer box shape. One panel full height on either side. When the TV and trailer are straight, the panels are curved inward toward centerline just slightly(and about 6” away from the TV rear). As you start a turn the inside panel front is pulled(bent) inward with a cam level action sensing the articulation action of the trailer. It is more science project than anything. And it doesn’t address the top or bottom up front. It the idea entertained me for a few minutes.

Nice. That puts the [hingless] complication on the trailer instead of the tow vehicle. Maybe a secondary clamp onto the tow vehicle to sense the angle mechanically?

What I do is take a picture of the paper sketch, run it through the GIMP to adjust the contrast and then upload it to an album where I can reference it at will.

The idea is to have essentially Extension of the hitch that continues straight back on centerline under the ball receiver. Using a trailer with a V formation frame directly to the coupler, the extension offers a lever action in relation to the trailer. It’s just a matter of translating that motion through a lever or to to the side panels. A vertical shaft allows an even pull to both the top and bottom of each leading edge of each panel.

Ok, but what type of album? I’ve only stored images on my iPhone 8 hard drive.

Do I need to create a photobucket account of something to put the images in the right format to upload here?

Is the a way to upload photos directly from my phone image storage to the forum? I can, and often do, add images on another forum this way.

I’m awful at modern digital technology.

Thanks for asking.
  • Click on User C[ontrol] P[anel] in the upper right
  • Click on Pictures & Albums on the left
  • From there you're on your own, the first time you probably need to create an initial album
  • Once you have an album there'll be an Add/Upload pictures button
  • I don't know how to access a smart phone, I shun that whole #%&(-show.

Photobucket (and presumably others) adds it's own problems.

If you have your pictures in a common area, you can upload them using the "Go advanced" posting process down on the bottom of the post box. Waybdown on that page is box(es) for attaching files or pictures. It will ask you where the picture is located and on my android, I just highlight the picture I want to include. The forum software then uploads the picture, but doesn't allow editing so sometimes it's sideways or upside down

Im also gonna guess that the hitch pin is very near the front because the edge swing has to be equal to the circumference of the hitch pin offset radius
