I know, should have added Petrol somewhere in that
It also depends on tax regulation. Tax makes up over 60% of our (Dutch) gas price. If I had kept my Nissan I'd spend one month's income per year on gas alone.

I've look at, and test driven the VW triplets. the Mii is best price here in Denmark, but they also have issues it seems. For me a cheaper investment - yes, but not same milage af the Yaris Hybrid. And btw both the triplets and the Yaris Hybrid run on ordinary 95 octane. So same fuel.
For one of the triplets with the same euquipment, at the lowest grader Yaris Hybris, the price would be almost the same, because I'm aming for it in a van version without backseats.
So I would have to buy climate control, electric windown, central locking, and 15" tires and LED drive lights for at triplet to have the same equipment as the basic Yaris C.
Then one of the VW triplets would cost mere more, that a basic Yaris Hybris in van version without back seats.
Not a good deal, at the Yaris Hybrid according to spritmonitor.de gets 4,8 liter to 100 km, where the seat Mii gets only 5,2 liters to a 100 km.
On top of that, I can get a 5 year total service deal on the Yaris. (Everything exept tires end petrol). Yars comes with a 3 year warranty, and the triplets only with to.
Toyotas seldom brekes down, VW's have lots of issues - so I'll take the Yars anytime.

I say. The new Honda Fit hybrid won't quite match the fuel economy of the PriusC. The Honda is bigger, heavier, and less aero with a bigger engine.

Sorry but you are wrong. I gave you the link that proves it.
Please show me proof that it isn't so or stop calling my claim untrue.
The Yaris Hybrid and the 2014 Fit both have a 1.5 l engine. The current Fit has a smaller engine, but is less economical.
The new Fit has some clever aero tricks, has a more efficient gearbox and the ability to switch the EV motor/generator to a gear that suits it best, unlike the current Honda system and unlike Toyota's HSD system. I think Toyota will drop that for a dual-clutch system soon.

The new Fit & Yaris go fighting!
Honda's 2014 Fit and Toyota's new Yaris do battle in style!

Who really knows what the new Fit hybrid will do until it gets into the hands of the consumer. It certainly won't beat the PriusC by 20% which would be 72 mpgUS. Not happening at steady 55mph in a car with that much frontal area where the C gets 60 mpgUS. There is always fuzzy math involved with the hype. Perfect example: the Volkswagon XL1 claimed 260 mpgUS which was a short run and did not account for the use of battery power. It really gets 110 on a trip.
.
It is possible to hypermile a 2nd gen Prius to 105 mpgUS in competition style with pure PnG and EOC at 25-35 mph but we don't go around calling it a 100 mpg car. A hypermiler may get the Fit over 80 mpg once in a while at slower speeds but I am guessing the EPA window sticker will be closer to 60 highway.

Altough hybrids are not my cup of tea (I'd stick with Diesel anytime), the Yaris still seems to be more reasonable than the Fit.

If the Fit hybrid is rated at 86 mpg on the Japanese test cycle it does beat the Prius C's 82 mpg rating on the Japanese test cycle. However, we all know test cycles don't tell the whole story. Time will tell.
I have a hard time believing that the Fit hybrid will beat the Prius C for the reasons Sendler shared as well. The same thing happened when the C-max came out and was compared to the Prius / Prius V... Hopefully Honda doesn't go down that road.
All in all, another choice will be a welcomed addition!

Does Japan quote Imperial gallons? 80mpg Imperial would be 66 mpgUS.

I believe the 86 and 82 are US gallons.
