Yea those 4.10 gears are killing the MPG's. The new gears/rear center section would pay for itself in no time. What about the one your friend had in the Ambulance?

Hi guys,

Had my big interstate road trip over the weekend, before i left i made up a quick air dam.

Some garden edging from the local hardware store as well as aluminium U section:

Screw it all together:

Add some brackets on the sides to bring it out level with the tires:

and paint it black:

The bottom of it is about level with the lowest point on the front suspension and the butt-dyno says its helping aero quite a bit

First fill before the road trip got me a new PB of 9.48 mpg, most of that tank was done without the air dam. The fill halfway along the road trip i got a massive 10.6mpg! there was a decent tailwind most of the way which obviously helped as well as the air dam and a couple of long EOC's.

For the second leg the wind died down and there wasnt any decent hills for me to do good EOC's down so i mainly used DWL and a little bit of drafting, the average speed was probably around 90-95kmh for the whole trip. The second leg as well as 2 days of pottering around the town at the end netted me 9.63mpg, and the same trip on the way home with similar conditions i got 9.66mpg. Still yet to fill up again for the 4th leg after getting home.

Oh yeah i also forgot to show you guys my new batteries, tray welded up and painted:

Batteries, buss bars and wiring mounted:

2 part terminal cover started:

and finished:

there are tools in holes in the sides of the terminal cover (in the purple section) to change the main fuses under the bonnet as well as remove the terminal cover.

Thanks for looking

Aero + Tuneup = New PB!

Hi Guys,

Just filled up my last tank from the return trip of the journey, back up to 10.14mpg! a couple of downhill EOCs pushed me back over 10 i think, hopefully i can keep it up around town

Heres a few pics from the road trip:

love your work!

The kick panel on the drivers side looks awful close to the gas pedal. Id be worried about putting my foot through the speaker, Your foot rub at all?

Not to beat a dead horse (Get on there! Whack! Whack!) But with the bed cap I doubt your going to be hauling more than a few hundred pounds. If your not going to be hauling loads of gravel or bed fulls of construction supplies the 4:10 gears are hurting you. Id suggest looking for a similar width car rear end with some highway gears, (2.74 or so). Many custom shops make custom universal joints for these applications.

With that engine, and your aero mods, you should be able to gear it for about 1500 RPM at 60 MPH. Possibly even 1400 RPM if you are good at DWL. That plus making sure that the carburetor is giving the right F/A ratio should push your mileage to close to 20 MPG.

22 Maverick: Summer 2022 burned 62.74 gallons in 3145.1 miles for 50.1 MPG. Winter 2023-2024 - 2416.7 miles, 58.66 gallons for 41 MPG.

Thanks guys,

Im still saving for new gears, being such a popular diff they are quite expensive here, even from the wreckers they wanted $400 for a used center with a different ratio, then i still need to rebuild it with new seals and fluid and put it in

There is no overdrive which makes things worse, i have looked into getting taller tires to help out until i can afford a new diff center but tires this size are also quite expensive

I havnt yet kicked the speaker on the drivers side (there is about an inch and a half to the pedal) but i am working on a grill to put over it just in case.

Thanks for looking

No updates on this really, i have been busy with other projects and havnt done much driving lately so i havnt even refilled it recently (yay!) the next fill will be a bit screwed up though because the LPG solenoid died halfway though the tank so i had to use gasoline for a couple of days.

Dad cleaned out his shed the other day though and found something that might interest you guys...

Its a chinese 49cc 2 stroke designed to mount onto a pushbike, unfortunatly going through my pile of old bike parts i dont have a frame that it fits in so il have to find one for it, the plan is for a board track racer style bike to do local trips where i dont need to carry much with, similar to this:

i took it all apart the other day and made sure everything inside is in order, re greased and lubed it all and filed out the intake and exhaust flanges to promote a bit smoother flow in and out of the motor:

Thanks for lookin
