When I brought up the comment about the tire contacting the skirt, I was talking about the tire contacting the METAL STRIP across the wheel wells, not the plastic skirt. My experience with using a metal strip that grazes the tire occasionally has led to a FLAT TIRE, that's all I was saying.

Good luck with the transmission, HydroJim.

I have no metal strip.

Jim, Maybe you can research focus transmission gear ratios and find one that is geared up for lower rpms.

Gear Ratios

5-Speed Manual Transmission

1st: 3.42 2nd: 2.14 3rd: 1.45 4th: 1.03 5th: 0.77 Final Drive: 3.82

Hopefully I can spend some time this weekend diagnosing the problem. I'm 80% sure it's the 2nd gear synchro, but based on what I've read about the focus, it could be something as simple as shift cables that need adjusted. so Hopefully I can figure it out.

Anybody have any experience with transmissions that can help me out?

What is it doing to make you believe its the synchro?

You might as well check the shifter cable, it should be a bit easier than tearing down the tranny. It might be in need of adjusting even if it isn't the problem.

I had a car once that acted like the 2nd gear synchro was shot. It turned out to be worn out shift linkage.

Double clutching works also.

I believe it's the synchro because when I try to go into 2nd, there is a grinding. I'll have to investigate more.

I mainly notice it when I put the car in neutral, coast around a turn at an intersection, and then try to put it back into second. Many times it'll grind and then everyone in the intersection looks at me so I know I'm not hearing things. I also get it will upshifting and I never downshift, so I haven't checked that.

I have a 3 day weekend off from school so it gave me more time to get in the garage and continue working on the aeromods.

Today I went for the airdam. I may eventually go for a belly pan, but considering this took me 1 hour to complete, it sounds much better than crawling around on the ground installing a belly pan for hours.

Anybody have any tips on how large the radiator opening should be? I never use my AC because it doesn't work anyway so I would assume I need less cooling than most people.

His mods are much better looking than mine! Wish I had that talent with fiberglass but I've never worked with the stuff and using coroplast was so much cheaper for me.

I'll be going out for a fuel economy test on my 60 mile route later tonight so hopefully I can get an idea of what all the work I've done has done.

Best I could do without scraping. I may have to trim a little off depending on how the dam goes with driveways
