Been looking. Lots of **** piles. I'm selling some wheels so that will put $300 more in my car fund. If one of my cars sells though that would be ideal. It would be nice to be able to throw over $1500 on something.

Theres a second gen Corvair for $1k in Brainerd. Lol. "Runs and drives." Might as well shoot myself in the knee.

Got a friend scanning CL for me... if he finds me a car I'm giving him some awesome 80's Momo wheels

"I used to buy cars on Craigslist.... till I took an arrow to the knee."

Sorry.. just had to say it, that is what your post reminded me of lol.

$1500 can get you a pretty nice car... problem is, anything with good mpg most likely will have a higher price since they are in demand. Good time to buy though.. since gas prices are somewhat down (in my area). Was $3.99 around a month ago, currently between $3.30 - $3.50/gal.

I would target just about any smaller car around a 96-2000 for a fair price. Areo mod it, get a scan gauge, and pull amazing mpg .

Use AutoTempest Used Car Search Engine - Everyone's ideal car is out there. Find yours.
It streamlines the process a bit. PM me your area code and i'll help in the search, mainly cause i just wanna see more aero-modding.

How far away are you looking? I'll also need the top 5 cars cars your looking for. I'm assuming it has to be manual.

Crx HF,
Civic VX?
1litre Geo metro clone manual /xfi?
Toyota echo?
Anything diesel?
etc?

EDIT, Holy cow, the market got a lot more volatile then when i looked for my car this April. They're asking ridiculous prices. It's worse than the Volatility of Gold and Silver! Maybe if you offered what something is worth they'd take it when no one else bites.

I've been looking into Tercels too, but haven't searched Echos. The thing that really drew me to the Honda is the double wishbone suspension and efficient sport tuned stuff. I love to drive so something that's going to be engaging and fun is a HUGE plus. I've even been considering stuff that doesn't even get great mileage, because it'll be more fun to drive. The Probe is peppy enough but it's terrible around corners, and it's huge. I'd drive a kei car if we got them here. Autozam AZ-1, anyone?

On to the CRX pictures... this thing was such a pile.

Regular Metros 1litre 5spd. finding them 1.4k to 1.9k. overvalued a little.
1996 Geo Metro 2 Door - Great on Gas!
97 GEO METRO 5SPD 2DR R1833

Would you consider a regular CRX dx? In my opinion, The only way to get a decent HF is to buy a DX (or HF shell), and swap back in the engine or transmission from parts cars.

$500 and under.
CRX needs a window.

Beauty in the rough CRX, Interior poor, needs a quarter panel (not a big deal).

Definitely overvalued a bit. The red '97 looks decent but I won't be able to buy something that expensive unless one of my cars sells.

The flat black CRX scares me. "Ran when parked" and "side glass broken" are not things I want to deal with. Time to save some money, lol.

There was a purple second gen Metro that was reportedly in good condition but was "rusted out" (assuming the control arm mounts) and listed at $250. It didn't look much worse than the red '97. If I could weld stuff I'd totally pick it up and fix it.

If you look at a metro, check the part of the frame called the "frame horn" which is where the front control arms attach. That is the most rust prone area and basically ruins the car. Unless you're into welding?

EDIT: based on your last reply, I assume you already know about this, so nevermind

I replaced my Neon with a civic VX, my only regret is not doing it sooner. The thing is downright awesome, 60 mpg in mixed driving and cold weather. Since it's a civic, suspension parts are a dime a dozen if you wanted to really feel like a fun car.
