The expansion factor for gasoline is 0.00106 / °C.
If you heat 1 gallon of gas 20°C, it'll expand to 1.0212 gallon.
(Say 10° underground storage temperature vs. 30°C tank temperature.)

That's a 2% difference.

Will that affect how much gas I can fill up? Would this cause underfill/overfill?
It's not dramatic, but it definitely affects the fill-up in warm weather.

The key factor is not what goes into the tank, but what fuel is still in there.

Filling up with a lot of expanded fuel still in the tank, would show a lower amount of fuel going in, and show artificially better mpg.

So assuming you still have gas inside your tank, filling up in cooler temps still applies. Maybe not so much as in "getting your moneys worth at the pump," but more in terms of getting accurate fillups when tracking mpg.

MPG updates

Ever since the power steering delete.

Drove 240miles and still above the half tank mark = on track to hit 48mpg!

Ah it's like the end of the book is missing! I'm in the middle of pondering my next car Crx,del sol, fiero, ?? I'm REALLY encouraged by reading this thread and you guys have given me a lot to think about.

The foam plug is awesome and I plan on trying that out.

Someone mentioned it looked like you had shrink wrapped a belly pan but you used coroplast...had anyone ever tried heavy duty plastic sheeting for a belly pan?I don't know how you would attach it or if it would just flutter and flex too much? Seems like it would have potential especially if the exhaust was wrapped with heat wrap the whole length.

I'd say the CRX is the best @ stock, while the Del Sol could have the lowest Cd after a boat-tail install.

I like coroplast because it's easy to work with and sufficiently stiff, that's why I'd use it over sheet plastic.

yeah I used coroplast. I screwed it on the underside to the side skirts and front and rear bumpers, then secured it down the middle using zip ties. Yes, part of the rear section did get caught in the wind and tore off, in which I had to secure down again. I left enough space around the exhaust so melting was not an issue. however it did melt around the engine and transmission. I am now in the process of redoing the underbelly by building an aluminum frame underneath the car that will allow me to screw it down in more places.

The del sol is a tough starting point because the stock cd is 0.35, which one of the highest for a Honda. I think the crx is a better starting off point. But then again, the del sol will be a newer car with more options for an engine/tranny swap.
