My mom was authoritarian and loved me. Her mom was authoritarian (Japanese) and didn't display any emotion but disapproval or anger. Mom does the best with the tools she was given (as do we all).
That isn't the reason I questioned authority; that's embedded deeper at the DNA level. I like the challenge, and because I'm willing to disbelieve at the expense of acceptance, I expose weakness.
The only reason I know mom was (usually) right now is because I learned it the hard way through testing they hypothesis myself.
Tying this back to Campbell, he guards himself with truth, admits uncertainty when things are uncertain, and is critical of authorities when there's reason to be critical. He was among the first to say mask wearing likely helps reduce Covid spread when the CDC was saying it doesn't help, for instance.
You can hardly find evidence of CDC or Facui saying not to wear masks if you Google it, because the corrupt media is trying to bury the blunders of their priests and reinforce their agenda to get people to obey authorities without question.
It's not just that I distrust Fauci, CDC, WHO... I'm contemptuous of the fact that they've sold their obligation to promote the health of people for political positioning. Dr. Campbell has only displayed genuine concern for wellbeing towards all people; setting aside politics, and exemplifying what it means to have honor, integrity, and compassion for people.
There's 2 ways to be wrong; ignorance and corruption. The first can hardly be faulted, and the other simply diabolical. I'm not interested in listening to the diabolical, and certainly not being a pawn of the political power elite.

CDC and masks
I thought that the comments were made under the context that, personal protective gear was in short supply, and frontline health providers should have access to all they could get, since they were in the trenches.
I always had N-95s around the shop because of the composites I grind and sand, but they were already hygienically compromised, and of no use to emergency room personnel.
I never felt slighted by what was said in the news.

Fauci and masks.........GOOGLE
I only get commercial broadcast news.
I did hear and see that FOX was doctoring video, taking things out of context, spinning, to demonize the WHO and CDC, etc..
Two of FOX' most popular presenters were interviewed about their Trump-era broadcasts. They both said they lied all the time and never thought twice about it. They considered their jobs to be like Jerry Springer. Just amp up the viewers and keep 'em amped up. It was just entertainment to them, not journalism.
Get ratings. Sell advertising. Make the Australian owner, Rupert Murdoch richer.
The Australian- American War. Sell coal.

I've never watched Fox, so I can't confirm/deny. I can only anecdotally say that people more often comment to me that Fox does a better job of presenting the full footage including context than other clickbait generators like CNN. The handful of times I watch mainstream clickbait gossip sources, they don't play footage at all, but instead "summarize" what the person said. "He said inject bleach". "They're taking horse dewormer". Nope, I don't like anyone telling me how to feel, even if it's something I agree with. Tell me the facts, and I'll interpret it myself.
Most of my information comes from watching John Campbell videos where he early on criticizes the official guidance, only later to be vindicated by authorities changing to his position.

Because I didn't recognize it? It came across as whataboutism.
redpoint5 -- When I was in grade school we played cowboys and Indians without animosity (the way of the warrior). And we collected WWII fighter plane cards instead of baseball players. The Spitfire, Messerscmitt and Mustang were equally respected. It's like it was another world, before re-segregation.

It's known as controlled opposition. MSNBC is worst. ((Gates))

I'm old enough that my childhood and public school education was largely free of anti-american and re-segregation ideology. I collected Desert Storm cards mostly because of my fascination with military machines... and in junior college I could criticize Marxist philosophy and convince others of the reasoning in class without fear of any admonishment from the Marxist professor.
... Prager was saying how (I think it was) Columbia university had 4 graduation ceremonies in an effort to maximize racial segregation. I'm torn between feeling fortunate I wasn't subjected to that absurdity, and disappointed I didn't single-handedly break their racist strategy by identifying as a trans-black woman and attending the black graduation.
I don't consume any of the big box filler news outlets, but I hear snippets of the dumbest things from CNN like "Please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful."
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble...
I wouldn't be surprised if they were also among the imbeciles with a headline about a vehicle running over parade goers (I believe I made the satire about banning scary, black, fully automatic assault vehicles before they printed the dumb headlines).

Next time I suggest you use some sort of identifying font, italics, or bolding. Some here are whacky enough to treat all your posts as verbatim.
