aviationhumor.net: Experimental air-ambulance version of the P-38

Air travel with a view!

I'd like to see one of these (rarities) with four open wheels on the Salt Flats.

The're on what are normally bomb pylons so think of them as escape pods.

From what I know, they used to be your favorite: drop fuel tanks with the drop option removed, a stretcher rack installed and a celestial observation window screwed on which provided egress. Field modification, used sparingly.

Well, if the passengers survived the trip, I guess they would arrive deaf anyway...

Wouldn't be worse than what the pilot experienced, and nothing a set of those glorius headphones of the era wouldn't cure.

I suspect that the people they were to transport were semi concious and it would be an hour trip. >>>500 miles?

There used to be tractor drag-racing events held in a city near the Brazil-Paraguay border, yet I'm unaware of much effort being directed to aerodynamics.

That looks like a sprint-car wing, used for cars that run on quarter-mile dirt ovals. They are literally constantly turning left and skidding.

Odd to see it on a tractor-looking vehicle!
