In the video somewhere, they mention measuring Cd 0.36 and change for this car, which would have been quite good back in the day.

I'd previously mentioned Open VDB and what it portends. Now a SIGGRAPH preview reel pointed me to:

My current understanding of Clebsch Maps is that they represent the normals to the direction of flow. One point of interest, the Delta Wing Data Set, at 1:42, suggests that vortexes are not open-ended but are loops closed at the diffuse end (shown in the thumbnail).

Se also Fluid Processing at 0:56.

I've probably neglected the underbody in this tread.

Found this:

A car produces 40 to 50 percent of its total aerodynamic drag in and around the underbody, the wheels and the wheel arches..........

When it comes to compact cars like the new A-Class (2012, Cd = 0.26), coupés such as the E-Class Coupé (2010, Cd = 0.24), saloons such as the E-Class (2009, Cd = 0.25), sports cars like the SL (2012, Cd = 0.27) and SUVs like the M-Class (2011, Cd = 0.32), vehicles in these segments have never before achieved such low Cd figures. The new S-Class is set to continue this trend.

Yea, I noticed the little Gurney Flap/Wickerbill on the tailgate ledge top.

Gotta wonder how well those things are going to wear under abusive work conditions.
