No smoke or wind tunnel, just lots of arrows.

This explicates areas that would be difficult to photograph. The blue shading is helpful too.

The tail is similar to the bottom configuration in the table below, with lowest drag, although the lowest lift is with the middle configuration.

This might be some form of ground pressure wave, just thought it could be related to topic.

I think it is easy for us to imagine a teardrop shape as aerodynamic, however it gets tricky with the ground plane interaction. It's like the elephant in the room. We all know that it's there, we just don't talk about it as much as the other stuff which is more easily identifiable visually.

Same idea, but not an exact overlay by any measure.

If this is the Barrett 50-cal. sniper setup, this would be a vectored supersonic shock-wave/pressure-wave propagating from the muzzle brake, helping to stabilize the barrel for the next shot if necessary.
Not quite as dramatic as the M.O.A.B.,22,000-pounder's,but quite telling!

I don't see any ear protection, but he could be using ear canal bud plugs.

Looks like his helmet was knocked off, adding to the dynamic of the moment.

I was thinking the pressure/sound wave was bouncing off is body to move forward, otherwise the wave would continue in the opposite direction of the projectile.

A slow motion gif or video would be much more telling than this still image.

Aerodynamics | BLOODHOUND SSC

Quote:
BLOODHOUND SSC will be the first – and, probably for a long time, the only – land-based vehicle in history to travel for a sustained period of time well above the speed of sound. Hence one of the crucial aspects of the aerodynamics of the Car is unique, and that’s the supersonic nature of the air flow, and in particular the presence of shock waves and their interaction with the ground.

A brand new series of programmes that will take you through the inner workings of BLOODHOUND SSC - a 1000mph car aiming to break the World Land Speed Record!
Video claims that the rear wheel fairings see supersonic air before the nose cone does................other interesting things in the video as well.

Many interesting images pop up when using the Google image search phrase: "bloodhound ground pressure wave aerodynamics"

What I was really looking for was how this rear spoiler below actually worked, or didn't.

This Saab 900 Turbo Aero Is A Piece Of Sweden’s Eden

Quote:
...........the rare “Aero” label designates, among some other touches, a more aggressive aerodynamics package that included those bodacious 3-spoke wheels that are now synonymous with Saab’s styling. The kit was comprised of the aforementioned skirting and lowered air dams which were developed with the aid of wind tunnel technology, so the next time someone asks you how effective your blocky Swedish polygon is at pushing through the air, you can quote whichever made up drag coefficient you want—as long as you also mention “wind tunnel” no one will question you on its atmospheric slicing abilities.
I've seen the same rear spoiler on the convertible version as well if I recall correctly.
