I came stupid close to 50 mpg yesterday, ended the trip at 48 mpg. Weather is warming up, so the 50% upper tape block came off. Things went pretty well for the first 90% of that trip. There was the usual traffic jam for a mile, and I was able to coast into it, putt around in high gears and minimize its impact on my mpg. The last few miles on the highway there was a ford transit connect that was keeping a good 5+ second following distance on me, and keeping other traffic back so I was able to do some engine on pulse and glide. After I got off the highway though, everything went wrong. red light after red light and bad acceleration decisions on my part kept the mileage from going up further. I saw as high as 49.5 mpg.

I have actually gotten used to it, so they will stay.

Sure is! Hoping to hit 50 mpg this summer. Still plenty of low hanging fruit left, I have both my exterior mirrors, open rims, warm air intake TO ADD, etc.

Cool report. Love this car. Been looking for them online for sale sometimes. Though I would be more partial to a 2012 Sonic, NA with the 6 speed manual, this is a great looking Honda. Nice number in it. You hypermile dedicatedly, yes?

Cool! Would be interesting to have some same-car competition! If you find one and are going to jump on it, hit me up. I can tell you what to look for, and what goes wrong.

I do hypermile dedicatedly. I am in hypermile mode for basically all of my driving. So I don't simply look for situations where I could easily hypermile, and then chicken out all other times. I'm driving 55-60 mph on the highway(which is the speed limit for a good chunk of it. Try telling that to other drivers though), and the speed limit everywhere else. I do a considerable amount of 'normalizing' on my highway drives that keeps me from getting higher MPGs. Ideally I would be doing 50-62 MPH engine on pulse and glide, but that would make lots of people freak out. So I generally accelerate to 60, coast down to 55, do mini pulses sometimes 55-60, and often just settle in 6th gear at 55 at less than ideal engine loads. Other normalizing would be accelerating or waiting longer to let off the gas so I don't "hold up" people when approaching red lights. I don't give up on hypermiling all together in those situations, but it is definitely not ideal for mileage. I still don't engine off coast if you are wondering, haven't put any effort into figuring out an injector kill switch recently, but that will be the next big step.

So no, i'm not another jacobAziza, the guy with the aeromodded orange pickup who EOCs and does P&G on the highway down to 45 mph. I have my limits. In the ultra rare occasion that the highway is completely empty, I have coasted down to 20 mph and then accelerated back up from there. Even if I don't have anyone directly behind me in my lane, I get paranoid and normalize. It has to be EMPTY for me to go into true hypermiling mode.

That’s some damn good mileage from a V6! I don’t believe I’ve got tall enough gearing to match you on the highway(3.84 final drive) but like you I’ve still got lots of low hanging fruit to pluck...

It was a nice 60+ degrees, sunny, pretty typical traffic. I did less unnecessary normalizing, and didn't get screwed over by stoplights! Saw as high as 51.0 before having to climb a hill.

I feel like that would be a good poll to start on this website, lets us see how many people hypermile on a daily basis or if they do it selectively.

Also, does this qualify me to have a "master ecomodder" title? I feel like I need to EOC/have made a boattail to qualify for that..

You can just change your title in the user control panel to whatever you want.

Thank you! It has taken long enough to hit that magic number! Unfortunately since then I have not seen numbers that close to it. With my latest fillup the scangauge was probably 2%+ pessimistic so I may see higher numbers again soon. Not sure where that inaccuracy came from, it is usually within 1%.

I still feel like I don't deserve that title yet, I have more to learn.

Oh yeah, this happened.

Tuft test coming whenever.

Edit: Just added my latest fillup, and I broke my 36 mpg lifetime goal! Now I just need to stay above there. Shouldn't be too hard.
