oh i had too when I realized I had a voyager :-)

ok next fill up. this is NOT ideal driving mind you. fully half the tank of gas was used doing census work driving ie all stop and go drive .1 .2 .5 1.5 2 miles turn it off another .2 mile turn it off 500 yards turn it off etc. alllll day long.

add in a trip to moyerstown 180 miles in that storm cooking it at 60+mph (had work the next day) then a trip my normal route to 08215 and back 110 miles

I was NOT easy on it.

I drove 496 miles and aded exactly 9.0467 gallons of gas (yes I am measuring it that precisely I fill it till it spills parked in the same spot every time) so I know I have an even consistent fill.

54.82 mpg Oh YEAH - I know I am going to break 60mpg this summer. NO doubt.

I have enough fuel for 2 more maybe 3 more E0 fills then I go back to E10 for a few tanks and then I get some more E0 and we shall see what we shall see

the data is pretty darned conclusive at this point.

these numbers are SO massively different there is no change that I am screwing up anything or driving the difference. In fact I am intentionally hard on it with E0 and gentle on it with E10. I want to REALLY be sure its the fuel doing this.

I need other people to start testing this and taking details notes. ESPECIALLY people in Pennsylvania the first state I am going to attack since its my state and they plan to BAN the sale of E0 come September.

I MIGHT have some inside contacts with higher ups. BUT before I waste their very valuable time I need REALLY solid data and preferably from more than just me.

If they force E15 on us this fall, we might all be needing to do this to keep our older cars running without damaging their engines and fuel systems.

There's no E0 around here for me, and I don't think there's any up in Rochester, NY for when I go to college in the fall. There's E85 up there though.

I'm curious to know how much difference E0 vs E10 actually makes on my mpg, if I ever get the opportunity to test.

Then again, it's a Jeep, so its expected reactions are never what I get. Over on bobistheoilguy.com, they have a decent number of people agreeing that MMO or other UCL, if dosed properly can improve MPG very slightly and smooth out the engine. So, I tried it for a few tanks. Well, it did idle smoother and start a hair faster in the mornings, but my FE actually got slightly worse. I stopped using it a few weeks ago, although I'm not entirely sure on my FE afterwards yet, but it seems to have come back, maybe even a little better than before (maybe my injectors are cleaner?).

...I'm waiting for one of the big automotive advertising companys to come up with an advertising 'pitch' that touts the fuel economy and horsepower benefits of using E85 over straight gasoline (E0) in their turbo-powered engines.

...mark my words, it's gonna happen SOON. Alcohol and turbo-engines are made for one another. It's a situation of high power from small displacement by controlling the effective compression-ratio via the turbo waste-gate...just takes the right software running in the engine computer control unit (ECCU)...and "closed-loop" control of the turbo waste-gate.

I've found a very small amount of veggie oil counteracts ethanol effects, at least in my Dodge 1oz to 16 gallon, good way to damage your injectors though.

Also there is a college article that talks about mixing small amounts of other organics such as different butanols in e85 to create an ethanol blend that behaves more like gas in the important ways.

Now see if I can find the report, it is what inspired me to add a little veggie to the e10, there must be less dangerous materials though than veggie to counteract alcohol vapor issues.

Cheers
Ryan

Hi, i'm jumping in here, and I admit that I haven't read this whole thread (first few pages, last few pages, and skimmed the middle).
As I see it the best (and most dangerous) way to remove the ethanol is to distill it out with a fractional reflux still ( look at homedistiller.org ). If you were to separate what came out between 172F and 180F you'd likely end up with some E95 and if you mixed the rest some E0.5 to E1.

You could also do what your doing with the water mix, and distill the ethanol and water. At atmospheric pressure you can only get it to E95 (and 5% water) but there are things for drying home made ethanol, one of which is corn grits.
To say in good standing with the ATF you need to get special permits for having a fuel still, to make it clear that you aren't a moonshiner.

Or you could try and improve your cars willingness to run on E10. 2 to 3oz of acetone per 10 gal of fuel may help a bit. A tighter gap on your spark plugs may also help.

When I get gas with higher amounts of ethanol in my s2000...it loses power/mpgs...runs rough...and is generally not as responsive

I gained a solid 2 MPGs by going from E10 to unblended 92 octane. Runs smoother, too.

Oregon's law requires all stations to sell E10, but there are exceptions for off-highway vehicles and farm equipment. I recently found out it's perfectly legal for me to use unblended Premium (the only E0 available) in my car.

In Oregon, all gas is E10, with special exemptions for off-highway vehicles and farm equipment. All gas stations are required to sell E10.

But after asking a local legislator about the law, I found out it is legal for me to use E0 in my road car, even though the law states specific cases where non-blended gas can be used.
