removing exterior mirrors...

I know it's illigal (and not a real good idea)

but,
do people get in trouble for this

I know you do if you have a JEEP, and take the doors off, and dont relocate your mirrors.



I've also seen people talk about putting convex mirrors inside the windows,
and cameras/lcd screens

if you do this (and it looks like no mirrors from the outside)
are you likely to get harrassed by the Police?

Its not illegal everywhere, you should look up your state laws. We have most of them in the wiki:

It looks like you can remove your passenger side mirror without any legal issues.

wa requires 2 mirrors
one on the left (doesnt specify that it must be "outside" the cabin)

We get off easy here in Illinois, and can remove both mirrors legally. I was pulled over once in my old car (the officer mistook my car for the other red Civic he had been pursuing); no mention of my missing mirrors. I also drove that car on a road trip through some states where removing one or both mirrors is not legal, too, with no issues.

I personally don't think someone would attract attention from the cops. In Sacramento I really hope the cops have something better to do than give those types of tickets out. I wonder if it would be a fix it ticket?

WA state does NOT require a mirror on the passenger side so long as your windows are not tinted. Driver's side mirror and interior mirror are sufficient.

The RCW covering tinting indicates that you must have a second exterior mirror if you have tined windows. I suspect you could probably get away with it anyways, but it wouldn't technically be legal.

this would affect me,
I almost always tint my windows (definitely will tint the 2010)
not sure I wanna put the money into the 2001

The wording of the law is very broad. You could probably get away with inside convex mirrors. Technically it's on the left side of the vehicle, and as long as you have the required view it should be legal.

The cop would have to be really bored to notice a mirror missing.

Oregon requires both left and right outside mirrors if your back window is tinted.

When I put a rear slider in my Jeep, the glass came 'solar' tinted so I had to source a passenger side mirror to install. Fortunately there's more Cherokee donor trucks in the pick-n-pull than one can swing a cat at, so I could obtain a passenger mirror easily.

I have a camera on the mirror stalk that is place of the drivers side mirror and have not being questioned about it when stopped at a roadblock license check, in B.C Canada.

All the same , I want to add a small mirror for safety as sometimes my monitor is off or occupied causing me to bend my neck i little further then normally necessary for that safety check.
