I had high hopes for the Open Revolt controller.

Not so sure how a controller for EV motors could be repurposed so easily for a micro-grid generator.

Well the original was a brushed motor controller which used a PWM / LC network from the motor windings to control effective voltage and subsequent current. Theinduction motor controller was in effect 3 stacked brushed controller power sections using an external sync. This control schema is eminently usable as a grid tie power system although probably not very efficient

I was considering a totally off-the-grid system actually, even though I might've not explained it so well when I mentioned the intention to use it for low-power appliances and to recharge phone batteries.

I misunderstood the application.
It looks like the bleeding edge of off-grid power is 3D printing the parts.
1988 Magnetic Cycloid Gear
A 12-to-1 reduction ratio. The plastic parts never touch, but the magnets do; delivering more torque.

3D printing might have some great results for certain components,, and maybe rendering it easier to scale up or down according to the need for each system, but what I had in mind was more of a makeshift approach with off-the-shelf car parts and the fewest custom fabrication possible.

The ease of spinning off patternless examples expands the design space for protoypes.
Then comes the reduction to practice. That magnetic cycloid drive might be machined out of an old aluminum flywheel and it's bearings. This one is a more difficult fabrication.
1990 Eccentric Cycloidal Power Generator
This is a tiny reduction box that could transmit 100s of horsepower with OEM levels of fabrication.
This is an extremely complex shape, but a five-axis CNC machine could produce it. Else 'lost PLA' castings.

Green energy (which to Siemens is wind turbines) is "duplicitous" and "marketing fluff".
According to Siemens probably former marking director.
This came out 14 hours ago and only has 10k views I would say goolag/utoob is throttling it's appearance in feeds.

Opinions? Everyone has one. Fuller in 1974:
www.bfi.org/: NYT (1974) Energy Through Wind Power
Quote:
The inventions that impound solar energy through sun‐reflecting or lensing devices are fascinating to the imagination but relatively insignificant in potential. In fact, they work only few hours daily when the sun is at a favorable angle.
....
Wind power is in a class by itself as the greatest terrestrial medium for harvesting, harnessing and conserving solar energy. The water and air waves circulating around our planet are unsurpassed energy accumulators whose captured energy may be used to generate electrical, pneumatic and hp draulic[sic] power systems.

I'm thinking we might get very good at drilling holes and extracting geothermal energy. Geothermal energy is mostly nuclear.
