Funny the 2 naysayers own EVs and PV panels on their homes...

Anyhow, would be good to hear some news of real advancements that make renewables more widely viable rather than something that serves niche markets or those that are heavily subsidized.

I've researched microhydro at my parents property. Perhaps it's simply that those who know the subject matter the most understand the difficulties of implementing the technology, whereas the evangelists think it's just a matter of will, and not of practical reality.

Have you considered a gravity vortex?

Well it really looks like solar won't save the world.
Notice there's a chip shortage and in the united states we only gets like 2% of our electricity from solar.
It's not s matter of will. There just not enough of the stuff needed to make the solar panels.

As seen with the Orville dam the United States has already hit and surpassed peak domestic hydroelectric power.

I like electric vehicles, if most people drove them the United States would be the world leader in finished petroleum products.

The folk songs about hydro power have gone downhill too.

More than 150 countries produce some hydroelectricity, although around 50% of all hydro-power is produced by just four countries: China, Brazil, Canada, and the United States. China is by far the largest hydro-power producer on the planet, as shown in the figure below.
If those West Taiwanese get pushy, someone will pop the Three Gorges dam. [did I say that out loud?]

Here's a fun hit peice.
https://www.wmtw.com/article/lawsuit...idor/37283420?

Maine court is blocking hydroelectric power transmission to the massholes in Massachusetts. Central maine power wants the lease money, and the governor appears to be in a position for her family to greatly benefit from the construction project and they both don't want the cheap hydroelectric power in maine. The power company wants to keep selling people of maine their own over priced electricity.
Plus massholes blocked a natural gas pipe line that was going to maine, which would have allowed many tens of thousands of people to heat their homes with natural gas instead of disgusting and expensive fuel oil.
Central maine power has already said the avalanche of money they receive from the corridor would allow them to reduce the average family power bill by 80 cents per month. So no measurement benefit to mainers.

They call it the "New England Clean Energy Corridor" but what it really is a cheap energy corridor for elitist massholes.
I'm sure the contract could be negotiated to provide cheap power to both maine and Massachusetts and it would easily pass but cmp won't allow it.
The cmp board members want to go from living life like a they are in a rap video (now) to living like a drug lord.

The main crick flows maybe 500 GPM but 1ft of head (some feeder of Little Pudding River).

The underground spring has maybe 40ft of head if you take the entire length of the property but only 10 GPM.

How many feet of run for 1ft of fall? Maybe their best bet would be an undershot wheel.

Gravity votexii work with low head but I dunno about 1ft:

Gravitation water vortex power plant - Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravit...ex_power_plant
The gravitation water vortex power plant is a type of micro hydro vortex turbine system which is capable of converting energy in a moving fluid to rotational energy using a low hydraulic head of 0.7-3 metres (2 ft 4 in-9 ft 10 in). The technology is based on a round basin with a central drain. Above the drain the water forms a stable line vortex which drives a water turbine.
So....

Use an hydraulic ram to lift the water: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_ram#Efficiency

There's no very very much power to be had in 1 foot of drop.
