Wouldn't that be a legal liability in case of an accident involving a blown tire ? What about ride comfort that customers expect from a given car ?

It is a good initiative, but it may not appeal to everybody, if they notice, of course...

Well if the people that made the tire say it's good for 35 psi, that's what I put it at. We pay about $9000 a month for our fleet insurance so I am in no hurry to get sued, I just inflate it to what the tire says it can handle. As for ride comfort, well it is a Rent-A-Wreck, so really, as long as it's not on fire you are doing pretty good.

Cardboard or coroplast wheel spats, held on with a couple of binder clips (what you use to hold 30 or more sheets of paper together) from the office. Something else to you can remove when you fill-up before turning it in.

I like the idea of having a spare SG and cable that I travel with. However finding a convient way to temporarly mount it and fish the wire without leaving sticky tape residue everywhere when you remove it seems like trouble. Also the one time you forget to remove it before turning it back in.

We are all fairly comfortable P&G with our manuals at home. Now we have to figure out how to do it in an automatic. I agree with War Wagon here --it seems like it would be easy to damage the rental. If you're not use to to the Shift to Nuetral from Drive without going to far, foot off accelerator, key off, key back on to get steering back... Something you should learn on your own vehicle in familiar locations before trying on something else on unfamiliar roads.

I've P&Ged ~5000 miles on two AT rentals, a Toyota Yaris in New England, & a Kia Rio in the Rocky Mountains. I averaged 41-42 mpg with the Yaris, & 43.7 mpg with the Rio. I was traveling with my 15 yo grandson & my wife & 18 yo granddaughter, respectively. I'd have averaged >45 mpg in the Rio, if not for 2 days of fighting 45 mph crosswinds in SD. My last 2 tanks in the Rio were >49 mpg!

I appreciate your efforts for good tire inflation! CigaR007 pretty much covered the liability matter.

Unfortunately, supposedly ADULT people of any age seem to automatically put a rental car in their minds, in the same vein of respect that they do to a paper plate at a picnic!

In a rainy BC climate, I can't help but picture hoodlums cornering at the max in the wet, and having insurance guys sniffing around, and coming down on you!

I was just concerned about you!

Back to the List!..............
If someone's going to the PRE- trouble of almost adding everything that's on their own car; why not throw in a black painted waterproofed cardboard airdam .

Most people are picky enough to take their vacations during the best weather possible. Waterproofed ( like deck stain like) cardboard should hold up; but the prep work for attachment is for you workaholics!!!! (lol! )

I really have to laugh when I drive by the Hertz car sales lot on my way to work. Because almost everyone is unkind to rental cars, remember "Days of Thunder"?

antenna delete

Unscrew the antenna, put it in the trunk, replace it just before you drive onto the lot.
Tape is a great temporary mod
Tape over the front end seams and while you are at it put some tape over most of the grill ! heck while the tape is out tape down the wipers

This weekend got 40mpg in a Chevy Aveo 4dr automatic. Mostly highway and mostly AC on. Did not tape anything or put air. (Costco didn't have air and then next place I stopped wanted a dollar to turn on the air compressor).
HWY 15 north of San Diego has a few hills so I was able to EOC down the back side a few times.
Maybe we need a thread that lists stations near airports where the air is free. :-)
