Report: Honda to develop hybrid to beat Prius fuel economy

According to ABG:

Quote:
CEO Takanobu Ito reportedly told his research and development team to come up with a hybrid that has a better miles per gallon rating than the world's most popular hybrid. Whether this is a next-gen Insight or a totally different hybrid has not yet been decided
Honda is unhappy with the sales numbers of the "affordable" hybrid:

Quote:
Honda executives have been disappointed by sales of the Insight since its U.S. launch last March.

Although the Insight undercuts the Prius by $2,500, the Prius outsold the Insight 139,682 to 20,572 in 2009.
They could probably accomplish their goal simply by modding the current second gen Insight: a little lightening, better aero, and major tweaks to the drivetrain.

Insight HF, anyone?

I love it when companies compete on efficiency. Interesting times ahead.

So, they're just going to start making the original insight again?

It is good news.

...but remember, that Prius-vs-Insight 7:1-sales ratio was before all the recent TOYOTA recalls!

Or maybe this will be the role of the Fit hybrid.

Whatever it is, by the time it happens, Toyota will have moved the goal posts again:

I love the 1gen insight, but people in generaly don't like small cars. 1gen sold only 18,000 cars world wide for 6 years, i personaly think it is sad.

We should be licensing the Ecomodder emblem to the auto companies and really getting some good mileage cars on the road.

Coroplast is the new chrome.
