As the Predator engine is certified for off-road usage, and the Renault might've been rendered street-legal mostly because it's old enough to be exempted from EPA regulations, would still be quite interesting to find out about any possibility to legally fit it into some pre-'95 econobox...

Jimbo drives all over to get the Renault registered, it hit 67 MPH, and did 0-55 in 48.57 seconds.

Jimbo road-tests the Renault and needs to adjust the speedometer down slightly: He said that the massive exhaust system dumps too much heat into the engine bay, so when he did a fuel economy run he needed to remove the hood, which you think is the trunk lid until you open it and see an engine.

The tires were at 40 PSI and he drove with the windows down because there isn't air conditioning.
Quote:
The rims on this car are riveted together and they require inner tubes. Well, inner tubes suck, so each of the rims were modified by installing rubber patches over the rivets and that eliminated the need for inner tubes. Now, these tires were fitted in late April and as of last week when we checked them, they were still at 32 psi, so I think the rubber patches over the rivets seem to work really well.
An 8 PSI drop is great?

He got 36.93 MPG.

I didn't post this last week and watched it again to refresh myself, but still wondered if the entire video was about the road test.

Yes yes yes it is.

I read the transcripts to verify.

The input shaft broke, so they replaced the part and used a longer key to distribute the torque better, but it seemed odd.

He showed a key that was too long and then it was too short with a spacer to keep it in place.

Why not use a full-length one?

He also added some brackets to the engine cradle as he works on other improvements:

Clickbait title:

He skips right over how to match the patina on the new short block.

Considering VW transmission parts, or even an entire aftermarket transmission for a VW, would be less unobtainium than stock parts for this Renault, maybe it could be an easy option. Adaptor plates for different engines into VW transaxles also tend to be easier to find.

Aircooled VW transmission have a circular pattern with 4 more or less equally spaced mounting holes. EASY to mount assorted motor patterns to.

Not to mention it holds the weight of the engine, most of the times without the need for an engine cradle.

Jimbo doesn't love us anymore. Obviously, it was something that freebeard did.

I was watching this video while eating potato salad for dinner because grad school and they immediately put on t-shirts they received!

Jimbo received a free, limited-edition, Ecomodder shirt, and I believe that he just said "Thanks, I guess, Dim." Anyway, I need to finish 25.25 hours of therapy observations for the third time and then read over twenty chapters from exciting textbooks!

Party on, dudes!

Jimbo replaced the exhaust, but did not install a muffler, and reduced his 0-55 time by 12s

He said that, on top of needing to figure out and fabricate everything, he had many shipping delays, like his sports bike mufflers that wouldn't arrive before he needed to upload the video: Now, where is my school's funding page?

I finally received my GI bill certificate!
