Scangauge II and hyundai (not reading MAP, not reporting fuel consumption)

Hi! i have a 2001 hyundai coupe/tiburon with the 1.6L alpha II engine

The problem is the scangauge works just fine...except for the most important...consumption...i have a 999.9LHK when stoped and 0.000LHK when moving...it reads the velocity and rpm, but the problem should be that it don't read the fuel injection...

Can you help me? i have been emailing with the scangauge help center but...nothing...they just donīt care!!!

My car runs scangauge in ISO protocol..

Tanks!

Diogo Silva

Not having a MAP value is a problem: The ScanGauge calculates fuel consumption based on AIR consumption; it doesn't directly monitor the injectors.

So if it doesn't have access to air data via MAP... well, Houston, we have a problem.

Just to confirm it isn't a units/conversion problem, I would also try running it in Gallons/Miles mode. I doubt that's the issue, but worth a quick look.

I will try that chance! never thought about it on that way!

Let's see...i have:

Rpm: ok
Kph: ok
Ign: ok
Ica: ok
LOD: ok
MAP: (NOTHING APEARS, no zero..no "---"...nothing!!!)
MAP: (same as MAP)
LHK:9999 when stoped (right!!!) but 0.00 when moving
LPH: allways in 0.00

I think there is noting wrong with the scangauge because i've tried it on a 2004 rover 45 and in a clio 3 and it work just fine

Well...news...

i just change to DIESEL a or b and it works!...A LOT inacurrate!!! like expected...

and the MAP now shows 0.00 (wen in GAS it just shows nothing)

can i get minimum accuracy whit the scangauge in diesel?...with the displacement in 4.0L the values didn't apear very far from reality...if i just make iterations to trying to get a a fine adjustment...do you think it's possible?

Best regards

That's very interesting, and I think it may just work.

You can calibrate the ScanGauge's fuel use to your actual fill-ups.

I'll send a message to the company and see what they say about this.

Linear Logic is not hopeful the diesel setting will be useful, but if it were me, I'd try to calibrate it and see what happens. What have you got to lose?

Hi Darin,

It does sound like his vehicle doesn't have the required sensors to report fuel economy.

It is unlikely that he would be able to get very accurate readings from the SG set to Diesel unless his vehicle is actually a diesel.

In Europe they were slower to adopt standards, even though they required OBD2 in 2000 for gasoline, there were a few vehicles that did not follow all of the rules yet. It sounds like this may be one of them.

I have been talking with those guys (a girl and some guy named Bert) and...then don't now that much about how the SG works...what readings it need and that kind of stuff!

You helped me more with a unique post!

so....

Tanks!!!

Today a just fill up (6.9l/100km, 34MPG) and i have pré-adjusted the SG like this:

I know the car uses about 1.0/1.4 liters per hour, so i adjusted the "diesel displacement" in SC until i get about the same values! (i set it to 3 or 4 liter displacement, i canīt remember right now!)

So, i have runed 130km today and the numbers donīt feel so bad!...

I was having 6.8L/100km, then i have made a fullspeed test (to see how my car react without the rear spoiler) and after that i got 7.9l/100km, i drove slowly at home and i have 7.5l/100km now! So it doesen't seem very inacurate! I'm going to calibrate it next fillup and then we will see!

Tanks for the help!!!

I'm not sure how the ScanGauge calculates diesel fuel consumption without MAP input. I hope it works for you.

Well i have done a lot of extra-urban driving this weekend so scangauge reported 6.8, and the real consumption was 5.6 l/100 (50MPG), so it was a 21% error....

i have done the accuracy...lets see next time!
