Episode 2627 -- 10:31 to 22:41
He goes on a riff that gets from psychedelics that make mice smarter, permanently, to The Beatles.
edit:
Twice now he's talked about 'recreational beliefs'.

I don't find as much profundity in the election year. "I want to hold your hand" is at least 50x better than "Yellow Submarine". Don't know where the drugs play into that, but also Ringo isn't good at writing songs.
I've got more than a few stories of people reporting their first psychedelic experience to me, and how it massively expanded their mind, but never resulted in more than playing for tips in a coffee shop. Was hoping an expanded mind had quantifiable metrics by which we could prove the mind was usefully expanded.
On a big tangent, I find it very interesting that folks like Brett and Heather who had previously been staunch supporters of one team color are lately very critical of that color, and less condemning of the opposing one. It's at least one of the canaries in the coal mine.

"quantifiable metrics"? He explained the problem with double blind experiments. Then there's set and setting. So you get results from busking to the iPhone iMac.

That's pretty obtuse, butt then I'm still flummoxed by the switch of colors back in 1989. Steve Earle used to sing about the unions' 'proud red banner'.
edit:Are Brett and Heather moving the same direction as Saturday Night Live?

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks the Dems were once Red.
What I saw, mine expansion nee blown was becoming aware of much more than one's immediate and local condition.

I'm always skeptical of big "switches", where the teams decide to trade sock colors and names. For example, one team claims that happened with regard to civil rights, but as far as I can tell, no such switch occurred.
With regard to unions though, that does surprise me. I'll withhold my opinion about this, and what I think of unions in general.
Not sure what SNL is doing, as I haven't found it to be entertaining for about 15 years. I was more of a Mad TV type of viewer (and comic book reader). Brett and Heather recently talked about commentary that would hold up to a fact-check, but only because it was not substantive. In other words; lots of talk without saying anything.

WhatIfAltHist was on Timcast:
It was posted ten hours ago, but the conversation sounds like it was some time around April.
It's pretty much historically inevitable, based on some high positive correlations. The two capitals will be Wash DC vs Austin Texas. That's aerohead country. Wonder how he'll take it?

Civil war prognostication is among the very few (perhaps only) logical faults I have with Rudyard, but I understand why doomsday prophecy is higher value, and he'd agree with at least that.
We've got enough real enemies that will inflict real injury to unite us before we're hunting our uncle who wears the wrong sock color. The unfortunate thing is that we must expose ourselves to enemies before putting away our petty (imaginary) grievances.
Brett and Heather's recent episode moved from a critical take of one political color, to an endorsement of one particular color, which is fascinating to me. That more than anything informs my prediction of the near election.
My enthusiasm for politics must exist in a yet to come timeline, yet I'm very entertained in the meantime.

That's another reason why multiple listening are required. If he'd just go into more detail assuming we don't know what a word nobody uses in conversation means, then it would be easier for the listener.
Eric has an interesting explanation for why Trump was opposed by institutions, including global ones, from the get-go. While he never implies who his vote will go to, the environment of political discourse we're in assumes a favorable opinion of Trump whenever any negative take of him is rejected.
For instance, on another forum, I point out the corruption of legacy news with the example of them lying to their constituents with the "inject bleach" hoax. By rejecting a blatant, provable lie, that earns the MAGA Republican reputation by people who are uninterested in truth.
Another interesting thing to me is Eric's contempt of string theory and those pushing it. I've never had it explained in a way that makes any sense and was therefore skeptical of its ability to further our understanding of the nature of reality. If someone can't explain something in lay terms that I can understand, it probably means they either don't understand it well themselves, or they're just wrong.
