I call all the 1.9s PD , may be factually incorrect but there are so many crossover bit I class them as the same

Here is my current setup which gives me +70MPG.

The car is Cordoba vario 98 pictures can be found at:

http://cid-acb1f13bac776768.skydrive...se.aspx/seatti

Mods:

- Rear wheel skirts (aero effect)
- Rear muffler delete (-4.4kg)
- Catalysator delete ( -2.5 kg)
- Towing bar delete (-16 kg)
- Spare tyre and jack delete (-10.8 kg)
- Roof rack and rails delete (aero effect) and (-4.1 kg)
- Rear seats delete (-9.5kg)
- 13" rear aluminium wheels (-4 kg
- Rear tyres Toyo 350 165/70/R13
- 14" front aluminium wheels (-2 kg each) rotational mass effect!
- Front tires Toyo 350 175/80/R14 (ca. 10% taller gearing)
- Tire pressures 50 PSI
- Flat hubcaps (aero effect)
- Smaller sidemirrors (aero effect) and (-2 kg)
- Aero fornt bumber
- Flat engine bay cover
- Tinted windows
- Engine oil Valvoline Syn power III 5w-30
- Transmission oils Mobil 1 VS200
- EGR delete
- Lowering springs 60/40 (aero effect)
- Other small weigth saving inside the car.

I think those are most of the mods done so far, still ahead:

- Glasfibre hood
- Better front bumber
- flat undertray
- sideskirts
- more weigth savings etc.

I think mods make half of the high mpg results driving habits the other half. I use at least these all the time:

- Drive without brakes
- Push and glide
- engine braking
- early gear changes (under 2000 rpm)
- lights off on motorways

Thats the current setup .

The link seems to be broken. Wrong address?

Nice to hear the progress of the car. Apart from anything, the weight savings should be nice for some extra performance. As above though, your link to the pictures seems to be broken or incomplete. It'd be interesting to see what you've done to the car visually.

I'm all the more interested in this thread at the moment as I recently test-drove a 1999 SEAT Cordoba 1.9 TDi with 90bhp. It was a really nice car to drive, loads of shove from the engine, fairly quiet once you were moving (noisy as hell when you start it up!) and felt very solid. The EU average fuel consumption for the car is 57mpg, which is 47mpg US and around 5 litres/100km. Very impressive as standard so I'm not surprised you're achieving close to 3l/100km at the moment. Yours is probably a little more aerodynamic than the saloon I drove:

Links on page two works and you can see the other pictures by clicking seatti button on the picture page. There arent yet ready picture of the hood but some new pictures. However the new glassfibre hood is now in place and wind noise is lower than before. I will tell how the coast down test results are and also my "test" leg consumption.

On next week I will begin to manufacture the new front bumber of glasfibre, it will be more aerodynamic and also much lighter...

Glasfibre hood and flat undertray done. Also have changed new rear wheel bearings.

Picture of the flat undertray:

29082009638.jpg - Windows Live

I put thermo tec tape around the front part of the pipe and also make some venting holes. After todays 500 km of driving I can close some of the venting holes in the back, because the pipe didint get so hot as I imagined.

Next will be new front headlights with DRL,s and the new front bumber.

Also had my best tank so far. So the direction is going towards the 80 MPG mark

The scangauge showed me little better results at higher speeds so I think the undertray works. No noticeable changes in driving behaviour. Maybe little less wind noise from the back at higher speeds. Tomorrow I will do my usual coastdown test and also the regular trip consumption test so I will know more then.

That undertray weigths ca. 15 kilos so its very stiff, but maybe too heavy :/ Next move is to make and connect side skirts to that undertray.

I have also plans for smaller altenator swap because the current is a whopping 120A one.

Results of todays tests:

Coastdown test:

120-85 km/h (2km/h) better than the last two tests and second best result overall.

I should get a second clock so I would get more accurate results :/.

My usual test leg:

Second best result, without almost any drafting help.

AVG consumtion 2.4 l/100km AVG speed 78 km/h. 0.15 litres better than the previous two tests.

Best is currently 2.3 l/100km with 78 km/h, but this was behind a big truck.

YOU should also notice that my SG is now calibrated so that it show ca. 0.2 litres too low litres consumtion for tank calculations. Last tank SG showed me 3.0 litres, but the result was 3.25 litres/100km. Those results are still comparable for each other because I havent chanced the SG calibration value.

What do you think is it worth to recalibrate the SG because it starts to show more and more too low (l/100 km) figures compared to actual figures?
