Hmmm, with respect, here goes...

A vehicle manufacturer will not or minimize the ability of the common person to F-UP... while driving their vehicles! It is more like covering your a_s...

If manufacturers installed "STUFF" that WE do use in our cars, they would get:
1. sued
2. loose customers due to damage/replacement costs
3. attractiveness/ lack of it?
4. whatever else...

So "OPTIMUM SIZE"? For regular folks, small and many times quite useless,
just good enough for it to be there but just enough...

Two cents worth...

I once knew a guy that bought a sports bike. As soon as he bought it, the thing fell over in the wind. He insisted they would have put it in a wind tunnel and made sure the kickstand would hold, it must have been something else.

Then it was stolen before he insured it.

We did not feel he was a smart man. He had a gorgeous wife who was amazingly sweet and wonderful.

They did not speak the same language. It was inexplicable.

2014 Renault Kangoo, the photo makes it look like a big SUV, but it's really basically a car.

They have a duct above them apparently for driveshaft cooling:

Those ducts are usually for brake disk/pad cooling. Those are seen more in sporty cars. My Subaru Impreza WRX has ducts like those, but without the spat. And, now that i see your pics, ill add spats like those to my Subaru. Would you mind taking some measurements of the spats on your Kangoo?

Hah! Brake cooling of course! As a hypermiler with a heavily loaded vehicle (4400lbs CVM for only a 1.6l NA petrol engine), driveshafts (CV's) worry me more than brake wear. I might block out the vents then.

My spats are 2" deep but I suspect the other dims will have to be adapted to suit your vehicle.
