Thanks,
I notice it's just slightly more than halfway from the lower of the two numbers I started this thread with to the higher. It certainly makes me wonder about the reliability of the information "out there."

Clearly, the information is bad. We just need to make sure EM is the #1 resource out there,

Absolutely and, to that end, I've repeatedly linked to it in my blog. For that reason I expect at least half of my regular readers have come to EM. I'll try to get the other one over here too!

You should put a link to the blog in your signature so people can go the other way

didn't even think to ask
Funny, they had a bunch of Smart cars in Plano at the Green Expo and I didn't even have the presence of mind to ask about the Cd.I think I was stumbling around, shocked at the $13,000 starting price they were asking for a stripper.Owners I talk with aren't getting over 42-mpg.I'm trying to understand the appeal of such a vehicle.

Agreed, and yet ... they seem to be selling in large numbers.

I think these cars are designed purely for urban driving. Get them out on the superslab (where the big MPG numbers are) and their shape and gearing betray them. That little engine has to be going like a chain saw engine.

It's a lot easier to get better mpg's with a little more aerodynamic car, even if the EPA rates most of the cars on this site in the low-mid 30's most of us can get over 40 pretty easily, can a smart car easily get 30% over it's EPA estimates? I'm sure with some careful driving you could do ok, but it seems like it's easier to improve with a car that slips through the air a little easier.
Edit: Now I can't help but think about somebody trying to cut down a tree using a smart4two.
