I had an awesome time all around on this rally. It really is great being able to talk about mods, statistics, and plans for the vehicle in real time and have the people you are talking with actually be interested in what your talking about.

The Jetta, however, found things a bit more difficult. So far things are looking a bit off, mechanically. Over the weekend I used a gallon of antifreeze, two quarts of oil, lost both my front smoothies, blew the right front strut, and lost 3(so far) screws on the belly pan.

Coming back into America, had a crew of 3 inspectors and a something?-sniffing dog go over my car for 15 minutes.

Jeff, thanks for being a great host/tour guide. I really had a great time and look forward to seeing everyone again.

Better numbers next time!

(From: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ropped-90.html )

Add a short boat tail to that, along with the usual complement of other aero mods plus LRR tires, and you've seriously got yourself an Insight killer. (And a really cool looking Metro.)

We already know you can weld!!

That's the one unfortunate thing about the conditions of a few of the roads in this rally. I hope you were looking for an excuse to rework some mods.

All this reminds me that I need to find a new oil cap! But perhaps I've stumbled upon something - replacing your oil cap with a wedged-in dirty rag adds 5mpg.

Glad to hear that you made it home okay despite the weight-reduction services offered by our lovely 198km course. Hope that the fixes aren't too time and resource consuming. At the border I'm sure the doggy was looking for contraband rhubarb. They got tipped off by Wonderboy blatantly crossing with a pile of it in the front seat.

I wonder if dogs like rhubarb jam or if it's an acquired taste for them too...

We should note that these guys brought their own biodiesel and ran on that. They also ran with the roof open - I'm sure they would have easily been over 50mpg otherwise, which is great to see from an alternative fuel. They're the "green" Smart below:

I spent a whole 2 minutes at the border. I had a cloth covering up my grocery bag and the foil-capped grape juice it contained (it actually was just sparkling grape juice) with stalks of rhubarb from Darin's garage chalet poking out of it. The guard asked me where I was going, how long I'd been in Canada, and pointed at the rhubarb and asked what it was. I told him it was rhubarb and he smiled and said he didn't know if it was prohibited or not but probably not and motioned for me to go through. I had a bunch of crap in my back hatch too that didn't get a second look which I could've concealed all manner of contraband in... maybe some horse meat.

I went [both ways] through the border quickly as well. I simply told them that I was going to participate in an SMCC economy run event in Montreal. He said "Where will it start?" I said "Uhh, from that town where Celine Dion is from".

I couldn't remember Charlemagne at that moment.

Their computer monitor probably shows them the pattern of my border crossing once each year, and always in early June.
