Smug Alert
Hey Ya'll,
I am a huge South Park fan, and I just watched the episode called "Smug Alert" from season 10. For those who have missed it you can watch it here:
Smug Alert - Episode Guide - South Park Studios
They don't mention the term hypermiler, but they are ripping on hybrid owners whom are smug about their cars.
There are two famous vehicles with their names slightly modified that I thought were funny.
Prius = Pious and Insight was Hindsight.
Check it out and let me know what you think.
Later,
Allan Greenblazer

I've seen this episode a couple of times before and thought it was fairly good.
All it seemed to be saying to me was that if you get a hybrid or any car for eco reasons just don't pretend your better than everyone else who doesn't drive them, or put it another way, "fine, good for you that you bought that <insert car here> just don't be a dick about it".
They also ripped on Hollywood smugness as well with that smug cloud stuff, it wasn't entirely a hybrid driver smug thing.
I'd watch through the lot of it because from what i remember there is a little speech at the end from stan and kyle about environmental responsibility and balance.
Seems you can't watch episodes on that site you linked to if you are outside america.

If you have the DVD of this episode you should definately listen to the short commentary, where they talk about their inspiration for the episode.
If you are not familiar with South Park it is for adults, and some may find it offensive, but I love it.
BTW sorry Katana, you can't watch it you "Crooked toothed, tea swilling crumpet eater!"(that's funny right there)

I have them all downloaded anyway so i don't need to watch it on that site.
Could you summarize the inspiration for those of us who don't have the DVD.

Greenblazer -
Ha ha ha, I wish there that many models of Hybrids! There's a Simpsons episode that has a similar spooflet with Ed Begley Jr :
Ed Begley, Jr. - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Quote:
Begley also spoofed his own environmentalist beliefs on an episode of The Simpsons by showing himself using a nonpolluting go-cart that is powered by his "own sense of self-satisfaction". Begley is also vegan.

% Marge and Homer, not really enthusiastic about getting on the bus,
% are pushed on by the crowd of Springfield elite. Trent, not sensing
% their reluctance, tells them they're going on a trip to save a stand of
% redwoods. Homer screams and pulls on an Emergency Exit handle. Marge
% shouts out the window at Ed Begley, Jr.
Marge: Aren't you coming, Ed?
Begley: I prefer a vehicle that doesn't hurt Mother Earth. It's a go-
cart, powered by my own sense of self-satisfaction.
[Begley attaches a wired-helmet to his head and quickly
drives off]

Matt Stone was talking about how he had bought a hybrid for his mom, and other hybrid owners were giving her thumbs up all the time. They also mentioned how the unusual looking hybrids were outselling the ones that looked like just like the non hybrid version. Because hybrid buyers wanted everyone to know at a glance that they were driving a hybrid because it makes a statment. That is what I remember.
Prius selling good cause it looks different, but a civic hybrid looks like a regular civic so it doesn't sell as well. I don't know if it is true, but it is funny.
