Did you ever participate in powerlifting?

Has anyone spent 20 grand on ecomodding here? Anywhere?

You could build a really high end electric car for that much.

Confirmation that they aren't the mad ones out there, guzzling gas like there's no tomorrow.

Some people will hate you for pointing out problems that they (also) face, but that they don't want to admit to, or get to grips with.

They actually do want to shoot the messenger, hoping the bad news will go away with him.
That's why you don't see them when fuel is more affordable: the bad news has subsided, and the messenger proven to be an idiot from their PoV.

They don't deserve this site.
But they do visit it, right ... he wouldn't know what's on this site otherwise.
They just don't want to come out of the closet.

Another reason : burning gas as a status symbol.
I can afford that, I'm better than you.

In another millenium, I've done some garbage collection while at university.
Despite the hard work it was good fun - and we factually did twice what Gov't operated garbage services did, with half the people.

In some wealthy boroughs, garbage had become a status symbol.
Some people simply had to have the longest row or the biggest pile of garbage bags - even if they were only 1/3rd full (not just one, nope, ALL of them nearly empty !)
At between 1 to 1.5 USD/bag back then, they weren't exactly cheap.
Yet we're talking 10, 15, 20 bag per week.

Quantity of garbage put out for all to see = status... wow, I'd never thought of that! But it fits perfectly with the Uhmerican conspicuous consumption thing. People cease to amaze me.

The same was once true of obesity. Of course it was easier to pig out back then because the expected lifespan was also lower (aka no consequences to being obese).
