I've had it to two dealers - same response. The 2nd flat out said it is likely the injectors or HPFP and that they have had a lot of dieselgate TDIs with fuel system problems from sitting for years. However, VW won't fix it without the mechanic sitting in the seat when it happens.
Not my worry anymore

The CEL is on or it's not and leaves a record in memory unless hard reset. You had a lazy/cheap dealer issue which is not surprising. Based on your reply, it wasn't worth escalating to the mothership. We'll see what happens when my cheap wife's neglect causes issues with ours.

This problem has never thrown a code or turned on the CEL.
From a stop under moderate to hard acceleration the car will accelerate normally just enough to get you out in traffic. Then it bogs down almost like it goes into limp mode. After about 1 second it clears out and accelerates hard again - sometimes spinning the tires. It happens a couple times a month - no set pattern.

Have heard of that over on TDI forum, seems like random glitch aka "gremlins" of WW2 and not repeatable. As you say its gone and no longer relevant.

Too many conversion losses with a CFO that doesn't understand or appreciate technical experiments.

I don't even know what's a CFO, as English is not my native language, yet having electric power backup generation fed by wood gas would be quite desirable.

CFO= Wife who is ex chief finance officer for a GE windturbine manufacturer and runs my personal finances. If I cant demonstrate an immediate fiscal cost benefit, the project is a no start.
I cant envision a home built wood gas generator costing less than a thousand dollars for a non-quantified smaller cost saving since everything would have to be purchased new. My last winter electric bill with HVAC and Ranger recharging included was $170.
