I subscribed to this thread long ago, and just happened to notice my name! I am embarrassed with the performance (today, she actually died in the middle of the road and I had to push it the rest of the way to work...), which is why I haven't joined. Ditto that. It's just a game of mutual encouragement. Victory is the pass-time and the mileage improvements.

Gah, alright. She is currently in the shop, getting her brand new IMA battery, and four new RE92's put on
I am also waiting on more polycarbonate, as my boat tail needs a lot more work lol.

Filled up. This tank was commuting and school dropoff and some feed store and hardware store and farm store runs. (hay bales and fence posts and feed sacks in the Fit. It's my 60 mpg truck. )
702 miles
11.34 gallons
61.9 mpg
Brings me up from #10 to #8 on the Top 10 list, from 8 to 7 on the % over epa list, and from 8 to 7 on Team Honda.

I'm a little embarrassed to see all these other Hondas cracking deep into the 60s, even older ICE Hondas, and I'm softpedaling my Hybrid to maintain 50 mpg or better.

Where we drive has a lot to do with it, if not more than how. Its always been a bit of a peeve that the rankings don't take into account the driving mix (city vs. Highway). If I only drove (or reported) my highway miles, I'd be at/near the top. I would be nice if in the next version they would require the driver to report the mix %, and calculate from that.

49 mpg combined driving in a car rated for 40 is good!
i agree with xntrx that where we drive is important, and add that the weather of where we drive is key. it is warm where i drive inSouthern Cali, and much colder where you drive in East TN. Your IMA pack is of less use in a cold winter than in a warm one. You operating temps will be lower in thecold, your aero drag will be higher in the cold. But you could still do a few things... seems you set you tires PSI at 40. Try bumping up to atleast sidewall. I am at 60Psi, partly so that cold tire pressure never dips below low 50s, on the "cold" dawn temps around here of 48 degrees F.

Yes, but... if I only drove highway my mileage would be a lot lower. As in 50 mpg vs my current 63+. Your proposed change would actually help my ranking since it's easier to maximize hypermiling gains at sub/urban speeds.

This is really similar to my experience. My highway MPG is lower than on surface roads, though my gearing mod this year, to get very tall VX/CX gearing, has closed the gap somewhat. I used to stay off the freeways for months at a time. Now I drive on the freeway daily, for probably 25% or a third highway miles, sometimes half, on every tank. I get around a little faster and that pleases my 11 year old daughter better.
