The Civic is dead; long live the Civic.
Born in September 2004 in East Liberty, OH, as a 2005 model, the Civic lived a long and happy life after being delivered to a dealer in Puyallup, WA, most recently commuting between Champaign and Mattoon, IL where it averaged close to 50mpg. Death came swiftly, in the form of a 24' box truck with a distracted driver. The Civic is survived by a new 2013 Prius. Memorial donations may be made to ExxonMobil.

Sorry for you loss. Will donations to Costco suffice?

The pump didn't cut off in time this morning. So, I spilled a lil on the floor for my homies that didn't make it through the war.

OK..
1) It's kinda weird that your car was originally sold in my home town.
2) That sucks. 7th gen Civics were the first to get a 5-star crash rating. That's one feature you hope to never put to the test though.
3) Are you OK? How bad was it?

I'm fine, thankfully; the trunk was pushed in and there was crumpling in the rear quarter panel/unibody structure, so I'm not too surprised it turned out to be a total loss.
I actually bought the car (used) at Harnish in Puyallup in 2010 while I was teaching at PLU. They got it from Honda of Fife; the claim documents showed the whole history of the car, and it was originally delivered at a Puyallup dealership. And, apparently, involved in a front-end collision before I acquired it.
I've marked it as retired in my garage, but I'll leave it up until the 90-day economy runs out.

New fill. 62.xx or so MPG. Late in this tank, I started using higher shift points, as high as 2700 in second, 2500 in third, and 2400 in 4th. I also extensively used DFCO throughout instead of engine off coasting and braking. DFCO was for engine cooling and power generation. I turned the alternator on only during DFCO. The result is the lowest reading on the charger (3.37 kwh ) that I have ever had for a tank. FE was about the same or slightly lower over the last several tanks. The higher shift points might have been the reason for the FE drop, or not. Can't tell.

Wouldn't the DFCO be the culprit as well? Any time you are using it, your coasting time will go down significantly so I would think it would be far less efficient than using EOC.

Yes that would be true, if I were using it indiscriminately. But I only use it in situations where I will unavoidably encounter excess speed and thus end up braking. In those situations, i have switched from EOC and normal braking to DFCO. Lots of hills ending at traffic lights around here.

Damn.
Looks like I may have bad news to report with my Civic too.
Started getting some high coolant temp readings (205-215°F) so it was time to take off my lower grill block. Pulled it off.
The next day I was still getting the high readings. Popped the hood and coolant had spilled a little out of the reservoir. Let it cool down and the radiator is low.
I'm pretty sure that means it's headgasket time....
