So, I purchased some time and downloaded a ton of small PDFs last night. I've been reading through them and am blown away with the level of technology they are putting into these engines. Here are a few things:

- low friction coating on piston skirts
- smart charging (low voltage on acceleration, high voltage on deceleration, - uses current and temperature sensors on the battery)
- variable vane turbocharger
- hollow camshafts for reduced weight (and used for oiling)

There is more but I can't remember it all. Overall, very cool.

I was also able to download some of the 2008 specs. This uses a redesigned engine which is much more complex IMO. It uses electronics in a lot of areas where vacuum controlled things before. So, it sounds like the older engine will be easier to work with.

Where can I buy time ?

Thats a reasonably cool engine for a swap. Japanese diesel tech tends to be half a generation behind the latest Euro ones - German and French mainly - but only half a generation and not a full one. Even the Koreans have some pretty cool Diesel engines - 110 bhp from a 1.5 isn't bad even now.
