I think there's a forum in the UK for each model/cars that have been made in the last 120 years
People are quite a bit more talkative on this side of the pond

I tried posting there in the Yaris forums. I had one reply, but it wasn't real helpful.

Daox, my engine has the same egr as the one you have pictured. I have looked high and low for an egr cooler for it but to no avail.
I must also point out that you will need a new egr valve to go with the cooler as the non-cooler valve has no external port to attach the cooler to. Which is a bit of a nuisance! Also, a new intake body will be needed for the same reason.....
Here is a toyota website that has information:Toyota Service Information
You have to pay for a lot of it but if time was used wisely, there would be a lot to download in the time you have paid for.
Hope that was more useful than the guy in the toyota owners club.......

Thanks ollie. I saw that site linked on one of the other sites. I'll probably have to go that way to get any solid info.

I also just noticed you have my engine! You are my new friend.

I did talk with the engine importer and he said he had another engine with the EGR cooler.

Does your 1ND-TV have a CAT? I was talking with a guy over the weekend and he said most of the Japanese cars are going with a NOx trapping CAT instead of Mercedes urea injection. Know anything about this or any other emissions stuff that might not come with just the engine swap?

I also talked with Ben Nelson this weekend and he informed me that I can in fact convert a 96+ vehicle. I just have to bring it in for inspection like he did with his electric car to get emissions exempt. I guess we'll see what cars come along.

This brings up the idea that I could just swap the engine into my Paseo... Its more aerodynamic anyways... VERY tempting.

I registered on two Polish Toyota forums and asked for info on the 1ND-TV engine and any advice on putting it in a Tercel. Now we wait...

BTW How much did you say that engine is going for? I looked at local auctions and there are relatively new (2-4 years old) 1.4 D4D engines from a Yaris or Corolla going for around US$1000. I'm sure you could find them even cheaper in Germany or France (that's where most of the used car parts sold here are from).

I'm starting to daydream about putting a turbodiesel into an old (=light) car, adding a 6 speed tranny and aeromodding it 'til its own factory won't recognize it. Wake me up when I start to drool...

The importer wanted $1700 (plus shipping I assume). That includes pretty much everything though, engine, tranny, ecu, and wire harness.

Go with that one as it'll have less emissions.
eg: the 2004 one is at 4.2L\100k combined and 113g\km of CO2.
The 2009 one is at 4.1\100k combined and 109g\km CO2

Mine doesn't have any fancy urea injection, nothing of it mentioned in the manual. In any case, if wikipedia is right then i do about 84g\km of CO2:Fuel economy in automobiles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'd say it's a plain old cat.
I see there is an aircon compressor on your engine. You're going to get rid of that aren't you????

ollie

Also, if it's parts you're after then go to ebay.co.uk and type in "diesel yaris" then rearrange by price, starting with the cheapest parts.Oh boy......

Wooo thanks a lot Ollie. You've been more helpful than anyone at this point. Are you aware of any other changes between the 04 and 09 engine?

Nothing that i can find. And i doubt phoning up a toyota dealer will reveal any more info. It's tough at the fringe of society!
