Gosh, now I won't get to sleep tonight- too worried about underpopulation.

It's all about the money.

Funny how rarely those are mentioned. I'd wager ZERO of Leno's Man On The Street people know about it.

Humanity is pretty much doing... Oh... none of those.

Despite humanity doing "none of those" we've never been better. Never have humans lived in such abundance, or peace, or diversity, or cooperation...

but doom is around the corner. We don't recycle enough, or something.

And you won't mind, because the "speed limit" will be higher.

Uhmmm, you really ought to google "seatbelt lawsuit".

For just a second there you sounded like a certain candidate for a certain political office.

OK, if you want to get into fantasy :-)

Besides, we'll all be arriving at our destinations much sooner when congestion is alleviated by autonomous driving.
Wrong, for two reasons. First, given the use cases Musk and others talk about, you'll have more (sub)urban congestion, because after dropping you off, your autonomous vehicle will be cruising empty to pick up another passenger.

Second, congestion is really only a problem in said (sub)urban areas, and then only some of them, some of the time. Out here in the real world, 'congestion' is some tourist ignoring the "Slow traffic must use turnouts" signs.

Yes, insurance IS liability in case we screw up, at least for those of us who buy vehicles we can afford, instead of financing them.

Deep pockets has to do with who gets sued, and who wins jury verdicts.

Regardless, Tesla never said the feature is to encourage inattention to driving...
Perhaps they have not come out and said that, straight out, for legal reasons. However, their marketing, naming, and Musk's remarks would certainly give a reasonable person that impression.

You really think so? Only if you get to define 'abundance' as having some high-tech beads and trinkets. Or (for some, at least) having such a plentiful supply of junk food that people can be simultaneously obese and malnourished.

I get to listen to semi loads of "abundance" going to and fro all day and all night, through my "residential area" on the edge of town and also at a lake cabin and also at a farm.

It didn't used to be that way.
