You want one that has never seen snow or salt.

The de-icing treatment doesn't corrode cars nearly as much as sea salt (NaCl) does to a car. IMO, living near the coast is probably worse for your car than Denver's road treatments are.
And I don't expect to recoup the cost of the car in gas. I just want to post some big numbers in something a bit newer!

My Mirage is #20 on the gas car chart. Today I drove I64 east at 65-70 mph in heavy traffic. I did not mess with any engine off and hit 59.6 mpg indicated. Not bad for a $12,964 otd new 2015 (manual). Knock a few grand off for used but you don't get the 100k warranty.
I pulsed to get tailgaters to back off or pass, but generally stayed behind the truck I was following, average separation probably less than 4 car lengths (60 feet). Drafting mandatory.
regards

Thanks for that, mech. Doing better than most people in a $40k hybrid!
Used mirages go for about 10k. Not hugely concerned about the warranty some I'll probably do something stupid to void it anyways.

I'd just like to add,if you go with the mirage and you have the option, have them hook it up on an alignment machine in front of you and look at the rear axle measurement to see how bad it is out of specs BEFORE you get the deal gone through.
If it is badly out of specs (excessive toe in) you will be going through tires like underwear.
Rear is not adjustable (no shimming no adjustment possible)and a pain in the neck to deal with the issue. (there are solutions but not simple)
If nothing else, you can use it to get a deal on the car if it is not within specs.
Other than this one issue I love mine to death. and if you are used to getting MPGs in the twenties, you will be giggling like a schoolgirl when you see the numbers on the display!

I'd wait for the Gen IV Prius to hit the showroom floor and see what happens to Gen II prices and look for a 2007. There is no battery maintenance; it either works or it doesn't.

Most car warranties are transferable to the next owner, although I don't know specifically about Mitsubishi.

You mean if it's badly out of spec the tires will last over a decade!

Chicago Mit dealers are advertized Mirages for under 10, probably worth a fly and drive.

Looks like secondary owners get 5yr/60k on the important parts.
I didn't consider the warranty transfer on a used car, thanks for bringing it up

I prefer somewhat more "seasoned" efficient cars, partly because I occupy a sparser snack bracket than average.
This is one of my favourite threads:

Though my latest acquisition is a "beater" 2004 Prius which I've only driven about 300 km total, but it's a hoot to pilot. Totally nerding out on the driving experience.
