UPDATE: I finished the front end (except the door) out of .093 polycarbonate. Bending it wasn't easy as shown by the bubble on the windshield when I over did it ... will cut, and replace that section.

Note: The side rod will be part of the wind deflector frame. It will be a velcro on/off attachment made from the same Al. rod that is used in the frame. This will allow me to lane split and travel through canyons without getting blown over.

For comparison an un-modded Burgman

Any ideas on how to make the door or "side wind deflectors"?

That's what I was thinking as well - sorry to say so.

It's down to the base vehicle I'd guess - those 650cc being overkill.
The Burgman is a BIG & heavy scooter too.
Covering it adds more weight, and makes it quite bulky too - large frontal area, and lots of side area making it more wind-sensitive.

Looking at Allert Jacobs' Honda, he's done a lot of work to cut down on frontal area.

Also with CVT you can not really "mis-use" the engine or transmission on purpose to gain a few mpg.

The tail and stuff certainly boosted high speed mpg but it does not show in reasonable driving.

The radius of the side panels has a lot to do with side wind load just as streamlining has to do with front CdA. As to door configurations the two that come to mind are the 'cupboard door' a la '65 Lincoln 4 door and the forward hinged 'pop top' cab over style.

No, the Burgman 650 has a manual mode so you can manually shift into 6 preset radius "ratios". Earlier this year I got close to 60mpg with no mods just holding the speed around 50mph in Over Drive "gear" (1-5 + OD). check my fuelly.

All these pieces are so angular. I am afraid your fuel consumption will be much worse.

Now he can match the cruise range of most touring bikes at 200 miles. My only question is how much to build one like his? I would guess at least $20,000 and in the same range as a Hayes diesel or a Honda Goldwing.
