Had some technical issues. gearbox hydraulic oil fluid sensor said level was too low and it was. Last week the level was on about half so I have to monitor the situation. For VW Lupo 3L gearbox hydraulic pump need green VAG power steering fluid. Dont put nothing else in or you will brake the system. Just the pump costs 1200€.
Which cetane booster was it ? I tried something called 0-60 () which made my Fabia quieter but didn't make much difference to FE.

I dont think it will either have much impact to fuel comsumtion but I will test it anyway. Cetan number minimum is 51 in finland. You can also buy neste green diesel which cetan value is 70. I will propably tune my ECU to that diesel to get best results. I will get more data from the manufacturer maybe next week.

I also have one tube of this kind bearing grease http://194.132.104.144/websites/GETO...20HS%20ENG.pdf which I will put to rear bearing which will be coated with this kind of stuff:
DIARC® Component coatings combine in a unique way both low friction and excellent wear resistance.

Get lower fuel consumption

Hi i have been driving a lupo 3l for around 20.000Km and i recently bought an Audi A2 1.2tdi.(bought it 3 months ago but crash it first day)
I can manage 1.9~2.1 l/100 Km but it mostly depends on the road traffic and specially driving speed. it is very important to measure the altitude difference in your records as going uphill or downhill makes a lot of difference.
My car is stock (i didn't do any modification).
I would say the easier way to get under 2.0l/100 would be 60~80Km/h speed and in a road with ups and downs.(not highway) My advise is never let the car disengage the 5gear on uphill and glide until around 60Km/h. (its a patience game) and try to never touch the brake pedal.

Did you ever think on using biodiesel? I think the bigger battle will be the €/100Km and its probably the best economic viable way to drop the money consumption on the lupo.(and protect the environment) And the lupo is already adapted to use it.

The audi A2 is better on fuel consumption than the lupo and i think one of the reasons is the thinner tyres. The A2 uses 145 taller tyres instead of the 155 so i think that the smaller they get the better. Another feature the Audi A2 have is the smaller fuel tank (just 20lt) to the lupo is a 13Kg difference. For the wheels the A2 caps are great and you can buy them easily on AUDI and they fit the lupo (same rims). The oil on the engine makes a big difference in consumption so i would not put anything but the recommended oil(or better).
Did you already checked the alignments of direction? fit it to 0º. Another thing i would recommend is use tape to seal the gaps in the body panels.
I would also fit front well wind deflectors and increase the rear ones. Lower suspensions is also pretty simple and inexpensive.
For harder modifications i would first think on installing an electric engine (hybrid lupo) before chop the lupo (cheaper and maybe more fuel efficient)

Good points there francm, some also what I havent yet checked like wheel angliments . Neste green diesel is biodiesel IMO.

However I know that this car can be driven under two liters easily. Factory claim for two liters is about 65 km/h. If you use hypermiling technigues you can make it about 70 kmh. But to be able to run on two liters at 100 km/h is a another case. I dont have the patience or the time to drive that slow. At the moment I calculate what my savings are on my salary, free time etc...

There are still lots of mods to do, but these I did recently:
- 145/80R14 bridgestone B381 ecopia tires (weigth 4.8 kg per piece). Rim was lighter .
- egr mod
- Redline MTL 70W80 gearbox oils
- Painted half of the car .
- intercooler off.

What comes to intercooler off, temps are now with steady throttle and no grill block at the moment:
80 kmh = 40 celsius
100kmh = 48 celsius
120kmh = 70 celsius
Outside temperature 13 celsius and wet.

Boost lag is gone. If you try to drive with hypermiling techigues you can take off -10 celsius of those figures. Also CAI is not done yet. Also I think the car accelerates faster.

Well now when I have the set I can compare those two in paraller. I also have one wicked looking idea conserning the wheel covers. It depends on the tyres will it work as planned.

Mods done so far to the car:
3.5 bars at the tires
Toyo 310 135/80R15 front tires 7% taller gearing
DRL led lights
DIY smooth hubcaps
DIY Front grill block
DIY Smaller mirrors
DIY full smooth undertray
DIY high flow exhaust pipe, also about 7kg lighter
Radio antenna delete
Aero windscreen wipers (no metals)
Weight savings:
rear seat 13kg
exhaust pipe 7kg
What rims were you using with your 15" tires? BTW I have read this way and that way about those Lupo 3L Fuchs being or not being magnesium I never could figure out if they were or not...
OTTO FUCHS KG
Have you put them on the scale ever? I finally got my Miata wheels with my Bridgestone EP100 175/65R14 put on my Mk3 (24.6lbs/11.1Kg each )

Have you considered at all "playing with" the gearing of the 5th gear? It is fairly easy to swap and the Lupo just like most other VWs (all the way to the Transporters!) share the same internal (same as in compatible) parts for the transmission

My transmission gearing plans even started a debate over here

By the way I would love to have these in SEE THROUGH 14" since my Miata wheels have an edge it should work or maybe the edge isn't really significant enough I have to check...

Less drag = Less fuel | Flexcaps save fuel | Eko Tuning --> Tuneko Ltd

[EDIT] Yeah I just checked not enough edge at all yep so would need the "ziptie" (I almost types "ziptire" LOL) version!

By the way did you know how VW did with the Audi A2? They used the same Lupo wheels and put hubcap on TOP of them

Lupos 4x14 wheel weighted 4.6 kg and the 145/80R14 tire 4.8 kg so the total package is 9.4 kg measured with fish scale. I saw that kind of hubcaps on one A2 here in finland. Car did not have any badges so didint know that was also a 3L version. They were pretty neat looking pieces, but anyway I will propably still put my own capsels in the car.

Those 15" wheels were replacement wheels from cars. other was original VAG wheel 3.5x15 and the other was from toyota yaris 4x15. Yaris wheels center hole needed to milled 57.1mm.

I think only the 3L version got those hubcaps. No 3L cars Lupo nor A2 were imported new to FIN correct? I know Lupos were not but not sure about the A2?
