Still shooting for 40 mpg all around for the Celebrity. Can usually do it going downstate, but almost never to work and back. Want to experiment with a nosepiece that would bolt to the steel bumper.

Also need to do some welding to the wagon. The area where the trailing arms attach is getting iffy, this is usually the kiss of death for good running a-bodies.

Didn't have any goals for 2009, just wanted to get better gas mileage.

Goals for 2010 is to hit 40mpg on the highway and 25mpg in the city.
Mods that I am planning on doing are
Clear wheel covers
Belly pan
Rear diffuser
variable grill block
Ceramic coating on the pistons, comb chambers, lower intake, engine block
Convert to manual trans
steam injection
electric w/p, p/s, and udp for the crank
Kers
Chin spoiler
Led lighting
spoiler delete
lowering springs
exhaust variable exhaust restrictor, aka Jbrake
variable intake manifold
modified thermostat
after all that rebuild the engine either high comp e85 set up, or low comp with a turbo.
Have couple of more mods in mind, but I'll keep them a secret for now.

lol... what a modest list. Which reminds me: In February, I'm going to buy another Insight, gut it, install a nuclear thermoelectric generator (like NASA uses for deep space missions) in the cargo hold, and a steam engine driving the front wheels through the Insight transmission.

Planned mods for this year:

-Lower the truck 4 inches in front and 6 inches in back - but with adjustable air suspension so I can get the height/capacity back when I need it - not only to lower the aero profile, but also make it easier to load (not to mention easier for older clients to climb into the cab)

-Once I can afford it, replace the transmission with one that has over drive to lower highway RPMs

I won't venture a guess as to how much those two changes will get me, but it would be nice if I could turn my current maximum into my new average
I didn't really think it would be realistic with just those mods...
but
as it turns out

I met my goal without even doing either of them.
Last tank just over 30mpg with normal mix of city and highway driving, some hilly terrain, and using the truck as a truck.
Turns out the secret ingredient was pulse and glide (which works a lot better after all my aero mods)

Having met my resolution the 3rd month into the year, now what am I gonna do for the rest of it?

The SHOW - '95 Ford SHO Taurus
Thanks: 5
Thanked 17 Times in 11 Posts
If you would have asked me what my goals were on January 1st for fuel economy I would have said....HUH? I had no idea I would be hook on ecomodding! I came to this site in anticipation of my 1959 Rambler which is having it's engine rebuilt. I wanted to see what I could do with a vintage mileage winner using some modern modifications. I thought I had it all handled in hypermiling, stay off the brake and gas, DUH. Well, after spending some time here and finding out I knew NOTHING I am blown away at the mileage I am getting with my current daily driver, a 95 Ford SHO. I haven't went thru a tank yet since coming here so I don't have numbers. But today I hit 200 miles on this tank and still have a 1/3 of a tank (at least that is what the gauge says) and I had never hit 200 with the whole tank before!

So, now, I still don't know what my goals are. Only that I want to keep going and learning more and I will even be doing some mods to my SHO.

Wait until the Rambler is on the road, that will be FUN.

Brian

My goal is VERY near now....I have a buyer for the Special Edition CD rims with 195x50x15 tires and my 11 lb rims are on their way over (4 lbs lighter than the CDs) and the 155x80x13 Kumho Powerstar tires are another 5 lbs lighter per corner...a total rotating wt reduction of 36 lbs which will make my car 1594 lbs instead of its current 1630. I am looking to get into the 60 mpg best figure and looking to stay in the high 50s. So far I have hit 57 mpg 4 times, two times with the original steel rims and 13s and two other times with thee great looking 15s. The more modern 13s rated for 41 max TP should roll better than the old 35 psi 13s that were on it....and the 11 lb rims should help a ton!!!

...I'd like to find some 16-inch versions of the old Oldsmobile Cierra "clean/aero" wheel covers.

...alternatively, a set of full MOON covers with provisions to check air pressure.

My goals for this summer:

2000 km in at least one tank on this summer, that equals 85,5 MPG
For shorter distaces 500km to 1000km tanks to hit over 100MPG limit.
Also planned to take part in economy challenge if they accept my car there .

Lots of mods are coming...

My goal this year is to make my current 24.4 mpg go up to 28mpg+

I want my car to loose some extra weight somewhere (about 40 pounds)
I want to get my final check engine light code off
Fix the fuse that keeps burning out
And top my highest MPG so far, even if it is on a trip...
I also want to finish steam cleaning the whole interior
