If I'm not mistaken, I think people in the know will tell you that the LLR qualities of the size spec'd for the Insight were different from other sizes.

I'm going to wager you guys don't like the traction not because of the tires, but because you have "AWD syndrome" - driving around like lunatics thinking your car will save you.

You should see how hard of a time I have convincing people that low rolling resistance does not equal low grip. They'll hear nothing of it while simultaneously recommending 740A/B tires.

Not at all! I drive around like a lunatic in ALL my vehicles, not just the AWD models. But I truly have never heard anything good about RE92's, in all my years of Subaru ownership and enthusiasm. So I went searching.

According to TireRack, the OEM tire on 2010 Insights is the Dunlop SP31, which is indeed LRR and very nice tire. They were original equipment on the Fit; I took them down below the wear bars before replacing them. Never surprised me once, in many K's of 'lunatic' driving. So-so in wet conditions but nowhere near scary. Not good at all in the snow, but most all seasons aren't, so eh. 51psi sidewall max, relatively high load rating. A nice, sturdy tire.

The OE tire on the Insight appears to be a different formulation than RE92's in any other size. Just check out the specs sheet on The Tire Rack. Similarly, the 2010 Insight has almost nothing in common with the Insight but the name.

I am not aware of ANY commercially available passenger car tire with lower rolling resistance than the OE Insight RE92's, nor have I heard any reports on InsightCentral where someone installed different tires and saw better FE or LB. That's a shame, because tire technology has improved greatly in the past 12 years. It's just that nobody is anywhere near as dedicated to efficiency as Honda was in 1999.

RE92 baggage

Well, I finally got myself a set of used RE92's...

Unfortunately, they came attached to a sizeable hunk of radioactive-snot-green aluminum and plastic.

So I'm actually still looking for another set of RE92's for team Suzukiclone.

There are four RE92's available in AZ, if anyone's interested. I don't think they're worth shipping up to upper NY state for what it'll cost to get them there.

Wait, so you bought an insight?! Mazel tov!

I am also looking for at least 2 RE92s still as well. There were 2 good ones on the insight rims I bought, 1 dry rotted and worn beyond use, and one very borderline, probably no good as well. Got 2 good ones on the front of the crx though! Dem tires are tough to come by!

Yeah, I guess that's what they call an "up-sell": stop in to ask about tires, leave with a whole car.

It needs a battery pack. And I have no time for yet another project, but couldn't resist.

What Frank Lee said was right when I got the shack: you will always increase the amount of junk you have to fill the space available.
