I've seen a few electraks quietly out-pull their equivalent hp gas rivals. Something to do with 100% torque at 0 rpm and six trojan t-104s as ballast.

Obviously, the dead weight advantage.
Immensely more efficient, as well. I plan on using the diesel because I have it and, well, why the hell not? I can run it on bad batches of BD with not too much trouble.. it's like a 1958 or so engine. (And it still runs.)

I saw the "worlds fastest lawn mower" in person not too long ago at the Hot Rod Power Tour, where it started in Madison, Wisconsin.
It was a pretty cool looking mower, but yep, the first thing I thought was, "Hmmm. Bet we could do an electric like that."
Get the Killacycle people involved, and I'm sure it would be a mower that would do zero to 60 in under a second.....

LOL! It would be seriously easy for me to get hooked on fast lawn mowers.
I have a first cousin that has been doing racing mowers for years. His latest is a street machine (they dirt-track race them here at times) that he has won a few 100-yard drag races with. Drove it over to my house one day to ask belt questions. I followed him back to his house, since the drive belt was giving out (finally did about 4 blocks from his house) and it would go 25 mph in third (of four) gear, medium RPMs...
...scary fast!

The last one I was working on a few years ago had a 600cc Honda engine on it, with the Honda's sequential transmission as well, and it had a single speed axle with chain drive. I was always afraid to go faster than 3rd gear 3000 RPM. On lawn mower tires, that's not really all that fast, but considering it had 7500 RPM and 5 or 6 gears, I'm sure it would have been enough to kill me... or at least get really close.
This one that I'm doing now (verrrrrrry slooooowly) is just a 12HP briggs single cyl using the OEM 4 speed axle (non-synchronized, damn). With proper gearing, it should be able to go 60MPH, but I won't do it that often. This one is being built with a saginaw steering box, hi-load front tires, and 245/50R14 tires on Keystone Classic 14x7 on the rear.
