To say you're talking to a tough audience here would be an understatement, but if you know your science hang in there. You are right about the remarks, and I'm sorry for that. Take some solace in the knowledge that the most "smart-Alec(y)" remarks come from Richards that can't even bench press their wives and would run from you if you ever met face to face.
Sorry to offend you, I apologize.
I do not discount the farmers improvement, but I think everyone here would agree that it would be more meaningful if we knew all the details. I mean, we're potentially talking a really inefficient piece of crap that the farmer modified and/or started to use differently, so a 50% improvement may not accurately reflect a single mod.
For instance, since I got my truck I've been doing mod after mod as time and money allowed. Since my initial tank giving me 15.9mpg to my current which will probably give me 20.3 it's been a process. The biggest part tho' has been learning to drive economically over the last 10k miles. I don't think any one of the mods themselves returned anything more than 1.5mpg (tonneau)- if even that much. It's been learning to drive, selecting my routes, altering my schedules, etc. So maybe 20% of the improvement came from how I use my truck and only 5% from the mods, but if I don't include that in my write up it could give the impression all of the 25% improvement came from the mods.
But with all of the details it would allow others to validate the mod for everyone's benefit. Trust me- I WANT TO BELIEVE! (I think we all do,really) So have someone in Lubbock send you the logs, type it into a spreadsheet, and you can distribute it here.
I also realize that there are technologies available elsewhere that we can't get here. I understand that up until a few years ago anywhere else in the world
BUT the USA, you could get a little Ford Ranger with a four banger diesel that could get up to 45mpg. Also, that keeping it from us was likely due to the stupid games our government and automakers play. Reeeaallly not happy with that.
Good luck with the Caprice. Make sure to test appropriately and keep accurate logs. I think we'd all like to see a real, valid success. And the hood ornament!
Finally though, I gotta call BS on your birth story. Herman is a good 5 miles as the crow flies from St. Jo's so nah, not buying into that one. That story is a little too big, even for Texas.
