Two points:

1. use the search
2. give a detailed description

op failed.

We get one of these every 4-6 months. Pretends like he has NEVER been on a forum and how dare we be mean to him by requiring him to pull his head out.

Then get's all butt hurt like the world just ended and says "he's done!!!" when called out.

capri,
Come on, quit the generalization about 'life and posters'. THe op's question was SOOOO vaugue it couldnt be answered.

ANd I think that I stated a perfect example of a poster who went on and searched and LEARNED, then asked and learned more.

Your telling us that people are stupid (in general) I dont happen to believe that. (although the op seems to prove your point.)

I'm not sure I agree. I have seen people expend an incredible amount of energy trying to find someone to answer a question when the answer was easy to find on - say - Wikipedia, or even a simple internet search.

I've also been on the receiving end of people who ask question after question. - again, when the answer was available elsewhere in a concise format.

Like I said, there is something in human nature that seems to want to talk and ask questions rather than do research. I'm sure a psychologist could tell us what that is, but I'm a technical guy, so it's a mystery to me.

Oh - and a Post Script:

Don't you think it would be better to be welcoming and understanding of those who are new to the subject? Rather than being demanding and condescending.

I would think that for a website like this to be successful, the population would overlook the usual pratfalls of newbies. People don't react well to sarcasm - and they certainly don't change based on sarcasm. If that's your modus operandi, then don't be surprised that people react badly and continue the behavior you find objectionable.

Unless, of course, that's what you want to happen.

Couldn't have said it any better. Thank you.

Threads like this reflect badly on the forum.

I thanked those who posted what I did not have to repeat. Metro, I don't think this would reflect badly on the forum, agressive useless babble is rarely appreciated, just ignored in most cases.

regards

Found this thread by the op.......

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...cks-25794.html

Just sayin that he is able to post an informative thread w/ information up front.......

And at 75 posts and more than 5 threads that he started......not much of a newbee

another thread by op.....

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...4-26031-2.html

aktacoma posted:
PS I went for a flex-a-lite controller because I read on some forums that that was the part that fails not the electric fan and the flex-a-lite setup for my truck is $422 at 3000 cfm right now my fan is only rated for 1750 cfm but i figured id be ok if i need more cooling i could buy a bigger fan and still come out about $300 short of what they are asking..

Seems he is aware of the search function.....

I hear what metro and racer are saying.......
but the shoe fits both ways.

op posts a short, generic, non-specific question......I post a short, simple request.
Yet I get lectured by the op about how I NEED to use more words to apeal to his sensitive side.
Point: my initial response was short to simply move the conversation along. He obviously has the ability to be much more specific as he has proven in the past.

I understand. We'd rather have newby posters ask the same questions, over and over and over and over again, rather than have them use the search function and figure things out for themselves. (edit: Then, have those same newby posters disappear after 100 or so total posts)

Got it.

Seems that there are two (different) points being made here.

1. Newbies
2. This thread/op

making general generic statements about newbies is fine and understood.

But those comments have no bearing on this thread.

Let's break it down.
1. short non-informative question (by an op who has shown a HIGH level of knowledge AND ability in 75 posts....they guy is hypemiling a 4x4 to 30+mpg....not a newbie)
2. a somewhat specific answers from longtime poster
3. Short inquiry into 'how'ed your search go?????'
point being....what have you discovered so far? so we can narrow the answers.

and here is the polite, respectfull reply.. .I know there are threads on this however someone posted that for trucks it doesn't work the same. And instead of telling people to go search for stuff why don't we include links to help them out since some of you know of threads that I don't..

Wow....(to the bold)

Next we will be told that putting a link in is rude.....why dont we type out an answer that is specific to the question.

I make an effert to greet almost every newbie.
I typically post a very short
'welcome and dont forget to put tires at 40+psi'

Now according to op, that is rude and I should provide a link....
what about posters who say 'dont forget the 65 ....' and don't post the link?

(Now I have gone so far as to post links in my sig so that I can instantly send someone to a scangauge link or underbelly link.)
