its looking good!

I used a foam pipe insulation to act as my mating surface with the car. Would that work for you?

Looking good, Man. Frustration just means you're doing it right.

Very nice work, Jim.

All I can say is you'd better get a spacer between the aluminum and steel or that thing's going to be rusting like crazy.

I've made pretty good progress today. I've attached all of the panels except for the bottom panel because I've still being going up inside the tail to do some work. I still have to add a lot of self tappers just to make sure this thing is secure. I bought some metal to make some flashing to try and seal the boat tail to the car.

weather spotter- how did you attach the pipe insulation. That was actually my first thought, but I wasn't sure how well it would hold up with the hatch being opened and closed all the time.

Jethrobodine- I don't think that means i'm doing it "right" but I'm definitely having fun, so I guess that's what it's all about. not to mention I'm helping save the world

Sven7- that's a pretty good point. Any ideas as what a good space material would be?

On its Rabbit, VW used a simple paper-thick film between its aluminum bumpers and steel mounts. I'm guessing you could use anything from frisket to polycarb. The important thing is preventing contact between the metals.

Thanks for the info Sven. I'll have to see what I have lying around. Maybe all my coroplast scraps would do. Hopefully I can loosen everything enough to slip some spacers in there.

Sven7 is talking about Galvanic corrosion. Coroplast would be a good isolator.

Looking forward to the first test flight.

No plans to hide the asymmetry. It came about due to sagging when I removed the carboard box supports from the end of the tail during construction. Everything on the left side ended up being about 1 inch longer and not everything is in the same place. Not to mention my hatch has always been crooked with different gaps on both sides. I planned on disguising it when I cut out the back sheet of metal, but evidently I didn't do a very good job. It's good that it has a homemade look to it because everyone seems to assume I built this using a kit. Whenever someone says that, I can't help but think "I wish"
