The CoBra! Name stood for COpper BRAzed. Unfortunately it tended to come apart. It was good enough at constant-speed use for gensets, but automotive use and dodgy antifreeze could kill it.

Shame.

Considering their size and weight, the newer Panther platform cars return surprisingly good fuel economy. Couple that with the high production numbers, ease of maintenance and parts availability and they have a very low cost of ownership.

I wish I would have bought one sooner.

2.73:1 rear end. It's practically idling down the highway.

I own a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis and get 28 to 30 MPG all the time running at 65 MPH.

I CAN get 33 to 35 MPG at 65 MPH by leaning the A/F ratio out to 16.5. Problem is a fair lost of power at that A/F Ratios.

I am using a pair of Zeitronix wide band O2 A/F monitors which have to ability to emulate narrow band O2 which includes the ability to adjust the A/F Ratios.

Sadly this change is made by a Laptop computer and one bank a time making it not at all user friendly..

I keep looking into finding a way to make this change automatic like the lean burn cruse program found in the CPU of third gen Camaros which gave THEM up to 35 MPG in a 1985 to 1990 Camaros.

So far all other changes have failed to make any change in MPG and I have tried a few.

These MPG figures have been tested and retested many times.

Maybe with some engine tuning and a manual transmission swap you could get close to 40MPG.

I LOVE my performance auto tranny, and I am running a 1998 P71 CPU.

I lean towards some kind of boosting system or a second after market overdrive, or both.

As I have (to me) that hydrogen will NOT work, by getting a tank of pure store bought hydrogen and test up to 6 liters a minute and it had NO effect.

Now really want to figure out a safe system to make pure hot gasoline vapor.

I understand, it's hard to get rid of the comfort of an automatic transmission after you get used to it. But you can still do some tricks with the engine. And maybe forced induction and a taller rear-end (a second aftermarket overdrive unit doesn't convince me at all, as it would add some friction losses to the transmission setup) might be useful. With a supercharger, you could also eventually increase the intake valve timing to get lower pumping losses, while the supercharger would be compensating the discompression by pushing back the charge air.

With a auto we have the torque multiplying and OD and with a lock up converter small power and MPG loses.

A super charger is VERY costly to buy and install, and add in your cam changes more cost. Add in injector timing and other tuning to match your new cams...

A second over drive could be bought 2nd hand and is a lot cheaper.

And I feel the 4.6 can pull very well at around 1200 to 1300 RPMs and have enough power to work at 75 MPH at that RPM.

Add in you can now gear split and you now have a 8 Speed tranny.
