Another truck aero cap idea...

Ducktail is holding up fine. No rain on the rear window. Ended using a flat steel bar as the rear support and dual screws per side to sandwich the ends from moving. Only takes me an extra 5 seconds to pull the bar out and slip it between aero cap and the cab so I can deploy the cab cover.

Finally got around to hot gluing all the extra holes in the Coroplast so it will be nice and dry under the aero cap when it rains now.

Ducktail had a tendency to lift at the rear so I had to screw through the metal bar. I will have to rethink how to fix this situation.

The Tyvek ended up separating from the driver's side on the cab and then shredded itself. Looked like a big cat had attacked it.

Will be looking fer some nylon today to replace it with later today. Hopefully it will make it down to Houston. It's raining out.

I think I've found the right fastening system fer my soft ducktail...

It's a porch screen track...got the 1½" wide track from Home Depot. I'll be using some of the VHB tape that dkruitz sent me to secure the track to the cap roof. Unfortunately, I didn't bring it with me so I'll have to build that setup when I git back home. I should be able to use the screen spline to keep the material from disconnecting from the cab as well as replace the material when needed.

Added in a gutter guard on the front edge of the aero cap...the gap off the hatch is about 2" closer now to the cab and just about even with the top edge of the sides. This will make it an easier platform to work from.

Added in some foam pieces on the front edge of the side to close up that gap. I've only got it taped in with Gorilla tape fer now but on both sides. We'll see how well it performs over the long run.

Finally got around to putting my mileage numbers into my fuel log...

Did a little better than average on the road. Seems I can hit around 24-26mpg vs the normal 22mpg on this same route. I've got more tests to do before I settle on this shape. Not bad fer 9 months with my aero cap...

Just finally got around to installing my soft ducktail. It should hold up better than using Gorilla tape...I'm using the 3M VHB (very high bond) tape that dkruitz sent me!




This is just fer testing. If it holds up, I'll be spraying the window screen with some rubberized stuff to keep the rain from draining through...

It was flopping on the drive to Walmart so I ended up screwing the side flaps down fer the moment. Seems to have eliminated the flapping fer the moment. Will need to come up with a better solution in keeping that back part tight/flat. Maybe a wire cable going across and secured on the sides of the flap doors. I know I don't want to use a bungee cord as the sun will kill it in short order.

I'll need to put in a ½" Sch 40 PVC pipe under the front top panel to give it better support and arch it to the cab's arch. This should give the soft ducktail a closer angle to follow to the aero cap.

Time to git some rubberized spray and apply it to the window screen so it doesn't leak down the window. It's projected to rain tomorrow...
