The S10 should classify under the MP4G, and when we chatted he hit high 30's, ~37 if I remember correctly, and that's the same class as McLoveland. 75 mpg, C'mon son! That's so impressive! lol, his Civic whooped the diesels, hybrids, THE INSIGHTS, and was only ~15 away from the Cam car- basically a homebuilt XL1. Thank God my Mustang isn't a 4 banger...

McLoveland definitely showed how critical driving technique is compared to the vehicle. Don't get me wrong, he has built quite the vehicle, but when comparing it to the Alfred State Insight, it was the nut that crushed it.

Just to add a little humor here:

I'd like to think team Centurion had a minor influence on that 67mpg figure -

Does anyone know or understand the rules for the second portion? Having a bit of trouble understand it...also stuck on mobile because Time Warner is terrible, and I have no mobile service at home.

From the data I have at this moment in time, overall fuel economy performance for ecomodders went as so:

1st: Changzuki (tie) at 200+
5th: More Air Less Fuel at 93.7
13th: BrucePick at 53
17th: UltArc at 48.7
26th: Phil Steenstra at 37.7

I think we did good work out of 44 cars!

Yes we did indeed do good work.
At 53 mpg, I beat out a Prius, a Volt (!!!), 2 Gen 1 Insights, 2 Miatas, 2 Mini Coopers.
And of course Changzuki won the big prize at approx 200 mpg!

Next year we should all have EcoModder logos on our cars and jackets.

Welllll...

Basic rally principles:
Instructions state "Commence Average Speed (CAS) 35 mph". So ideally, you drive at 35 mph avg until instructions say CAS some other speed.

Rally organizers know the precise distances between the CAS points and the spots where they put the checkpoints. Math tells them how long it takes (ideally) to cover that distance at the stated average speed. That time is the scoring standard.

You get one point for each 0.01 minute you are early/late at the checkpoint. Old school system was a point per each second. It's like golf, low score wins.

Just to keep it interesting, they don't tell you where the checkpoints will be. They just tell you where to set your average speed.

Beginning portions of the route instructions contain no speed requirement. Those sections are for calibrating your odometer.
