www.msn.com: Oregon and Utah Announce Mandated Gps Trackers in Electric Vehicles To Tax Drivers per Mile Driven
MSN|5 days ago
The landscape of road taxation is shifting as Oregon and Utah take innovative ... challenge posed by electric vehicles (EVs). In an effort to fairly fund road maintenance, these states are introducing GPS trackers for EVs, aiming to track miles driven ...
They can't tax out-of-state or off-road miles; so a panopticon solution is mandated.

Moar Power! Less energy.

I'm mulling over justifying the purchase of a higher capacity Ryobi battery, or simply wiring 2 batteries in parallel, or just storing extra batteries on the Jeep to swap out as needed, or building a custom 18v 7Ah battery using those cheep LiFePO4 cells I've got. The simplest would just be 2 Ryobi batteries in parallel. 2x 4Ah batteries would deliver equivalent energy as the stock battery.

I struggle with the numbers, but wonder why you would not just put two or three docking ports on the back for cordless tool batteries.

That's essentially what I'm suggesting by wiring 2 in parallel (under the hood). I've already got the battery adaptors for my Ryobi batteries, so putting 2 in parallel (adding range, not power) is a 5 minute mod and requires no further components.

I prefer Ryobi batteries over DeWalt or Milwaukee because the battery protection circuitry is built into the batteries rather than into the tools (as DeWalt and Milwaukee). That means overcurrent and discharge protection are built into the batteries I'm using rather than needing to engineer those components into the Jeep.

I watched a video [while eating] where the Donut boys drove every generation of Supra and compared and contrasted them.

The first Supra was a Celica with a longer hood, an i6, 110 HP, and absolutely no character.
My 1987 Honda Prelude Si had 110 HP from 2L.
A 2000 Civic LX or DX has 110 HP from 1.6L.

The base Mini has had 120 HP or so since 2007 and was on a list of the 10 smallest vehicles sold in the U.S., as well as the Mirage.

My 0.6L motorcycle has 110 horsepower. It gets 40 MPG. If it were tuned for fuel economy, it would probably have 40 horsepower and get 100 MPG (and have a single cylinder instead of 4). Everything has tradeoffs.

A few days ago I was precisely lurking about how different amounts of cylinders within a very same displacement range will change substantially the character of an engine. I guess you remember the Suzuki DR 800 S with its big thumper, which might eventually be capable to move those subcompacts still available in markets where Suzuki has a strong foothold.

techcrunch.com/: Teeny EV startup Arcimoto hooks up with defense contractor
Quote:
On Monday, Arcimoto said it is diversifying beyond its usual business via a partnership with Department of Defense contractor Matbock. That’s a first for the EV startup, which is best known for its doorless “fun utility vehicles.”
...
For its part, Arcimoto is searching for ways to keep its doors open. The company kicked off the year with a warning that it had “substantial doubt about [its] ability to continue” operating. Since then, the firm says it’s secured nearly $25 million via three separate fundraises — including a $6.7 million offering earlier this month. Arcimoto is due to share its latest financials with investors on August 24.

Defense contractor? Would Arcimoto provide some sort of hybrid setup for ATVs or UTVs to enable a stealth-mode operation?
