Just A Car Guy: the local spelling bee was won by a middle schooler on the word Voiturette

Quote:
Elliott Husseman, Inspire Charter Middle School, wins 2019 San Diego Countywide Spelling Bee

Winning word: Voiturette (a small usually two-seater automobile)

https://www.10news.com/news/spelling...l-spelling-bee

Voiturette was first registered by Léon Bollée in 1895 to name his new motor tricycle. The term became so popular in the early years of the motor industry that it was used by many makers to describe their small cars. The word comes from the French word for "automobile", voiture.
So an electric tricycle is (doubly) a return to the roots of the automobiling adventure.

I was on the West Side today so I stopped by the Arcimoto factory complex. They have added office space across the street.

I talked to the Lead for Marketing, about the Evergreen Edition vs the Minimum Viable Product. It will be a looong time until the $12.9K price point is reached, but we talked about an intermediate price point so I can plan for deliver next year. The current plan is to put in a zero-miles motor in the SUPERBeetle before it sells and price it at $12-13K.

I stood next to the box van and the fire department model seen above. We talked about radiusing the front and top edges, and having two rear wheels in tandem vs side-by-side. That's a lot of weight high above a single wheel so

I gave him a free tip on the front end aerodynamics, quoting Jay Leno, "Leather, the carbon fiber of it's day."

I think I saw 2 Arcimotos for rent at South Padre island today. If not, they were very similar knock-offs. They said something like "Powered by AEV" on the side decals.

MSRP $9,999. It's a Texas company, what else can you find out about it?

Also, when I visited, I learnt that there was only one FUV that got the trick double-folding rear seat. Don't know why, it seems like a must-have to me.

edit: AEV specs
  • 50mph top speed
  • Motor: 7.5 kW/10.9 HP Permanent Magnet DC
  • Battery Type: Lead Acid / Sealed, Gel
  • Voltage: 72V 120 Ah (8.6 kWh)
  • Number of Batteries: 6

50mph, 10hp. Half the performance for half the cost. The deal killer for me would be the profile of the windshield header. I'm picky that way.

When I visited, he told me they're starting accelerated corrosion testing. I recommended the creeks of brine that flow across Bonneville Salt Flats.
