I like the ARES gravity rail electric storage solution. Diesel electric trains are well known for decades. The only difference is discarding the engine and electrifying the rails. Which we need to do anyway for transportation. Adoption and build out (rebuild of what we already had and got rid of when diesel trucks came along) of a complete electric rail system should be very high on the list.
.
The transport trains could actually follow the loads and just park for the troughs.
.
Along with build out of a smart grid with HVDC interconnects everywhere and hundreds of million V2G electric vehicle charge stations in every parking lot. And real time price metering so that every giant battery in an EV can most often be used for grid storage when not on a trip.

Germany has apparently blocked it's data from electricitymap again.
.
https://www.electricitymap.org/?page...tryCode=US-IPC
.
Washington State and Idaho have been added and are showing off their endowment of hydro. 16GW. Public opinion must be swayed back positive for hydro and ALL 300MW capable and above sites must be developed worldwide regardless of any other considerations. While we still have the affordable liquid fuel and concrete to do it. Streamline eminent domain studies. Hydro is the no brainer of all no brainers for electricity.

For household use, maybe a rack of weight-lifters weights on a flagpole, with pulleys.

Hydro = Salmon cannon

Not sure who Jacobson is, or the validity of his critics, but there are certainly those who regard topics like renewable energy or environmentalism more like a religion and less like a science.

If he does claim we can significantly boost hydro power by merely installing more turbines in existing dams, it seems he isn't up on physics.

Also, anyone claiming 100% of anything is usually wrong. We're not even 100% horse-free for commuting yet. Claiming 100% renewables is almost absurd on the face of it.

What has been typical of Germany? They are often touted as among the greenest. I'm at 29g of CO2 per kWh at the moment. 24 is the lowest I see.

Germany has been running above 400gm/kWh all winter. Occasionally bumping 500gm. which would have been last night except it was Sunday. The data is back up now. Their 45 GW of installed wind capacity has been running at 5 GW all day. It is sunny today though.

Jacobson is the founder of SolutionProject.org that green advocates cite to show how easy it is to replace fossil fuels for all energy. He computes efficiency gains from electric conversion of ICE, underground thermal storage, ect, and posts total generation requirements from each source of wind, water, and solar, without addressing the actual quantity of materials and hardware that would be required. He also relies on very little storage because "It is always windy or sunny somewhere". And proposes transforming all heavy trucking to electrolytic Hydrogen.
.
The Roadmaptonowhere, among many others, show the quantity of hardware and the land use that would be required is prohibitive (Even if it is written in an unprofessional style and promotes yet to be built GenIV nuclear as a much more feasible approach to replacing fossil fuel).
.
Jacobson published his original paper in a scientific journal and now has rich Hollywood stars supporting him with no peer review and now that Clack and 20 others have publicly challenged him on many points, he is suing them.

So despite their claims of green energy and relatively high cost per kWh, they are still a little more polluting than average.

I remember a thread where they were producing more renewable energy than they could handle for a brief period of time.

Doesn't matter if the other 99% of the time you're feverishly burning fossil fuels.

Chuck Norris killed the dinosaurs.

How about mandating that every piece of cardio equipment generate electricity? Someone in good shape can generate 100w for an hour. If each piece sees five hours of use per day, with the U.S. average of 10¢ per kilowatt-hour, in one year each machine would generate $18 worth of electricity!

https://spectrum.ieee.org/green-tech...to-electricity

Boom.

World saved.
