I read the comments sometimes for background info, but don't even know how to add one. Sometimes with the 'interesting' stuff they want me to sign in to prove I'm over 18. I just swear softly under my breath and move on.

They do pretty well proposing new content, but some presenters, like Tim Pool, never show up on the main page.

If I wanted to dabble in commerce via Internet, I could. Bitcoin comes close to the 'anonymous digital cash' that the original cypherpunk greybeards required, but it's not quite there. Once Al Gore turned the credit card companies loose on Internet, that avenue was closed by the first mover advantage. Bummer.

I don't have illusions about anonymity. Email drafts don't work, game chat rooms don't work. HAM radio, too, it turns out. I just do everything in the clear and try to limit my attack surface. I posted on a different forum back in the 1990s. Now it's just Ecomodder. And a daily round of the news aggregators.

Researchers at KTH have produced a bio-based material that is reported to surpass the strength of all known bio-based materials whether fabricated or natural, including wood and spider silk.

Working with cellulose nanofibre (CNF), the essential building block of wood and other plant life, the researchers report that they have overcome the difficulty in translating the incredible mechanical properties of these nanofibres into larger, lightweight materials for use in airplanes, cars, furniture and other products.

“The bio-based nanocellulose fibres fabricated here are 8 times stiffer and have strengths higher than natural dragline spider silk fibres, generally considered to be the strongest bio-based material,” says corresponding author Daniel Söderberg, researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. “The specific strength is exceeding that of metals, alloys, ceramics and E-glass fibres.”

Rational discussion rarely changes people's mind. Insults never do, but you showed them!

There was a post on a sister site that said the way to win an argument was to find common ground, agree with them where you can, and then point out the parts where they are absolutely, totally, and unequivocally wrong.

That probably requires skill, or at least practice.

Carl Sagan recommended bringing better information to the discussion.
He also lamented America's lack of critical thinking capability.
