The guys over at Clean MPG took a couple of them out for test drives last fall and were posting 60-70mpg when pulling out all the stops. If I recall, they even managed a near-80 mpg tank or run.

I think the hybrid CR-Z has a lot of potential insomuch as it's: a) a high school/college graduation car that might otherwise be a go-fast WRX or Mitsubishi, b) a 40-something guy car when he wants a sportscar, but also has a lengthy commute. Not everything in the world needs to be a Civic, Prius or a minivan, despite how good each is in their niche. I think it's a smart niche for Honda and as long as they continue with the Insite and the HCH, I think they're doing the world a lot more good than those that are just pursuing consumer demand for power and sportiness without thinking about mpg.

More than likely the CR-Z won't be my next car but it's fun to look at. I have another two or three years left in my ol' Acura before I get serious about a replacement. I want the lowest cost (purchase and maintenance) for the best mpg and that's probably not going to be a hybrid. It's more likely going to be a Fiesta, Elantra, or something in that class that's about three years old. I wouldn't mind going older, but honestly, there's so many good newer cars coming out right now, the 2010 and 2011s seem a class above everything from the previous decade.

More on the thread topic, I managed 64.1mpg coming into work today despite having to jump off the highway in favor of surface streets to avoid a major traffic jam (thanks again to my Waze app). Funny how I've come to expect 60+mpg on my morning commute despite the fact that when I first got a SGII I was thrilled when I managed over 50mpg.

Take a CRZ, remove the batteries, install a 1.2 TDI with a 6sp.

That is my perfect car.

I've had my best tank so far this year at 31.38 mpg US. It's not my all time high. Embarrassingly enough that was done by my best buddy last summer while I was asleep in the back seat on a road trip! Getting Ultra gauge when they're off back order and I should be able to do better.

Sweet tank. 472.6 miles, 32.22 mpg- both personal records. If it weren't for some errands I have to run today I'd have ridden this tank to 500.

Last week we filled our 99 ford mini van. Got 20 mpg, lowest that we have had in past year. My wife had been smelling gas for the past month, I didn't smell any. Yesterday I opened the hood and found that a mouse had chewed through the supply fuel line. Glad that I found it. Gas was dripping on the alternator. God was looking out for us.

Recenlty had to change my route to work due to construction, different route almost identical in distance, but follows a river bottom for 15 miles, best tanks ever in Stratus with 3 tank average of 34.17, & best ever tank on Malibu of 34.5. Going to keep driving the Malibu for next week as temps going up & it's AC works. See if I can repeat those 34's.

My fuel light came on this morning and I'm debating on filling up tonight or tomorrow. 472 miles so far with a 26.3 mile commute home would put me at a 500+ miles tank by the time I make it back down the hill to the nearest gas station. Then again, it might also run me out. My SG is off a little this tank (I drove away from the pump and didn't reset the fill up until I got home), so I can't rely on the gallons remaining. I'll see what it looks like after baking in the sun for the day. Generally that's enough to bring the gauge up an 1/8th tank and while it's not really any more gas, it just might make me cocky enough to press my luck. Fortuntately, the gas station is downhill from the house.

Me too.

I just got 30.5mpg in my Toyota 4x4 pickup, commuting 20 miles one-way with about 50% highway slow and go. Previously in this commute before all the coasting and slower pace I would usually get 24-25 mpg.
