FSM says don't start engine earlier than 30 min after camshaft is installed. This is to make sure all excess oil is bled out of the hydro lifters.

Update: self-healing clutch; 2nd best fill
I dunno what was wrong with it, but the clutch (which had been terrible to use), suddenly self-healed.

Monthly fill-up time!
61.4 MPG US on the latest tank, the 2nd best yet for this car.
That's 95% highway driving on secondary roads at or near the posted limit (80 km/h = 50 mph). In all kinds of winter weather, from frigid -20C to hovering around freezing, from windy to calm. Not terrible.
A CEL came on for EGR, though. Probably either a dirty valve or coked up EGR passages.

Almost-monthy fill-up time!
3.8 L/100 km = 61.2 MPG US
Basically the same as last tank, yet I had the RE92's on for part of this tank. Waiting for warmer weather so I can do some more mods.
As usual, this is mostly secondary highway travel, at or near the 80 km/h / 50 mph limit. |

66 MPG round trip record!
The Metro returned a ~66 mpg US round trip record performance this weekend. That's a high point for the car since I got it. It was on a ~200 km route I travel fairly regularly.
Chalk it up to warming temperatures -- but not yet so warm that I had to enlarge the grille opening for cooling. Also, a light return trip-friendly tail wind. Also, marginally, some lightweighting work -- I took about 60 lbs out of it.
It still needs more more mods! In similar conditions & speeds, the Firefly would have been ~5 to 10 MPG better. Though I'll admit I'm also driving the Metro a little harder (faster).

I would love another EV. I miss having the ForkenSwift (well, actually, I still have its rusted out carcass, but that's getting stripped and sent to the crusher some day).
Probably no EV beater (winter or otherwise), because most of my driving tends to be on the highway, with trip lengths that are often out of range of lower end EV's (especially in the winter). I bike around town 3.5 seasons.
Considering budget: each of my last 3 beaters has been a thousand bucks each. That's also slightly out of range for a used EV.
